Bubba Burgers — Restaurant in Hawaii

I had the most awful experience today 5/8/25 around 2:30pm all because of the older woman in the black shirt with a camouflage visor. My family and I came in after enjoying our day on the beach while on vacation with my grandmother who has cancer. The woman clearly would rather be anywhere else but besides her job. I asked her if it would be easier to tell her what I would like on my burger vs tell her everything I don’t want on my burger and she just gave me the most dead stare in the eyes with no response. It felt like we stood there making blank eye contact for like 3 minutes WITH NO RESPONSE!? I then told her what I would like on my burger (I have very sensitive allergies so that’s why I am very careful with how I order) and moved on. When my burger came out it was nothing like I ordered and I was already upset with the first interaction so I did not want to have another one with this woman. My mother and grandmother also had awful interactions with this woman, when they were both ordering they both commented on how unfriendly she was and how they certainly did not feel welcomed. They both ordered fountain cokes and when they received them they asked the woman if they could get a straw with them she did the same thing and stared them down like they just asked some satanic question, and then proceeded to rudely tell them that only milkshakes get straws and if they were able to see the lid made for the cup that they need to drink out of that. She most definitely could have just politely said “ Im sorry but we don’t serve straws with our fountain drinks” vs making them feel bad about even asking. I would understand this interaction if we came to her in a rude way or in an unfriendly way, but we are a very friendly family and have great manners by saying “please” and “thank you” and doing our best not to inconvenience anyone. These interactions really upset me and I hope either this employee can understand that her interactions with people can really affect someone’s time in Hawaii or that she can find a new job that she enjoys and can spread joy. I would have loved to enjoy myself at this restaurant and say great things, but I genuinely did not have a good experience because of that woman. Hopefully they are better...

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. I was so excited to take my family there because back in the day I had eaten there with my mom. My mom frequents Kauai and has eaten there every time, even recommended Bubba's to others. She will never eat there again. When we got there my mom went to sit down while we ordered food. She is now in her 70's and is a little disabled. This young girl came over and told her she was not allowed to sit, she told my mom she had to stand with us in line. She was very disrespectful. When I mentioned she was not displaying Aloha spirit, she replied by saying, and I quote "I'll tell you about my Aloha spirit, I don't care if you eat here or not, you can go someplace else.. I don't care." As you can see in the picture it wasn't super crowded. Also she made another family get up, who were waiting for the rest of their party in line. There family was next in line ordering and our family was behind them. We tried to explain that we would be next to sit down anyway. None of this mattered.. She was the rudest person I have ever seen. She also made our experience there absolutely horrible. The food was ok, but not as good as I remembered. The burgers were also a little over cooked and to be honest I was scared to eat after the young lady treated us the way she did. We have been to Bubba’s so many times. It’s my husband’s favorite and a staple for us whenever we’re in Kapaa. However, I have to say this past visit was one of the worst service experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. We were there Tuesday, May 18 at about 6:30 pm and the lead cook (and possibly manager on duty) was so unbelievably rude to every guest in the restaurant. When someone approached the counter to (VERY politely) ask for condiments, the woman’s response was to snap “I’m cooking, figure it out.” This was only one of several interactions we witnessed as we were eating— at the end, we were ready to say “never again” to Bubba’s Kapaa. We own a restaurant and if any one of my staff members had treated our customers the way this woman treated their guests, they would be fired on the spot. Totally uncalled for and unprofessional and wildly unexpected from what we have previously experienced from Bubba’s. Thankfully, the Poipu location’s staff is still as awesome as ever.
