We really wanted to like Snug Harbor as it's an adorable business with a nice looking selection but there are some serious issues with the quality of what is sold there and the proper care of the plants, specifically with the trees and bulbs they sold us. We purchased two trees; a weeping pine and a spruce totaling over $600, as well as $150 worth of bulbs, and around $250 in assorted herbaceous perennials. Out of all of the plants and trees the only plants that are thriving are two hardy hibiscus that come back stronger each year (these were the "Proven Winners" hibiscus so I'm not surprised as all of our plants from PW do excellent in our gardens). Once November rolled around we went to plant the bulbs and ALL of the bulbs were dead and they disintegrated like a pile of dust in our hands. This only ever happens when very OLD bulbs are not stored properly, as most bulbs will last up to three years in cold storage. So we were clearly sold very OLD stock. After digging at least forty holes for the bulbs we were left with nothing to plant! A complete waste of time and money. But to date the most disappointing purchase are the trees. The weeping pine and spruce haven't shown any significant growth and are planted in the appropriate area with proper drainage, sunlight, and water. We've tried seaweed fertilizer, growth stimulant, but both trees just look shabby and have no real vigor or pleasing shape to them. We were concerned at the time of purchase that one of the trees, the weeping pine, appeared to have a damaged part on the trunk that I thought could be a canker, and although we pointed it out and questioned the staff, he insisted that it wasn't any cause for concern and that it was a perfectly healthy tree. Well, it's now in year three and both trees haven't shown any substantial growth and seem stunted and are very poor quality. As far as "sleep, creep, leap" it's year three and this is just not the case with our trees from Snug Harbor. Meanwhile the trees and shrubs we bought from the "Big Box" stores are thriving and have leapt in size! As much as we want to support local business and be an advocate for smaller businesses in the area, I just couldn't let this go unchallenged especially since they don't stand by their product and wouldn't even refund or replace the bulbs. The woman I spoke with on the phone said they do not accept returns on plants. So now, as I look out my window on two shabby misshapen trees that cost us over $600 I felt an honest review was a long time coming and seemed very necessary. Do better,...
Read moreThis was one of my favorite places in town and I was a regular customer who has probably spent in excess of $1000 there. Imagine my shock when they called the Kennebunk police and falsely accused me of shoplifting merchandise that I actually bought there according to their own records. A few weeks ago I brought a planter from home that I purchased last summer to Snug Harbor to find a fern to put in it and walked around the farm after taking it out of my car. Not a single employee approached me in the roughly 5-10 minutes I was there, but apparently concluded that I stole the planter. They didn't bother to check their own inventory to see if anything was actually stolen. Instead, I received a call from the Kennebunk police department a month later questioning me about an "incident" at Snug Harbor Farm. When I reached out to them at the Farm they looked it up in the computer and saw very clearly that 2 planters were purchased last year. When I spoke to the owner, he chastised me for not asking for help and when I conveyed how unacceptable this was he called me a "Karen." Small business owners beg you to shop local and then this is how they treat you. Disgraceful. I’ll never step foot in this...
Read moreI originally gave this place five stars due to the beauty of it and the pricing. (We found a gorgeous monstera for 100 dollars) I filled an entire window of my home for 160 bucks last visit with thriving beautiful plants....But today when I visited, the second I stepped out of my car a flock of young geese start heading towards the parking lot and literally as I crouched down to try and and call them back out the old man working starts yelling extremely passively and saying “that’s real nice, that’s how animals get hit real smart.” Started asking our names. Super weird. Super rude. just so you know I wouldve gone to get a worker to help me grab them I didn’t want to manhandle 12 geese that don’t belong to me. Obviously I figured they don’t belong in the parking lot I would’ve let someone know. I would wrangle them if I worked there but I don’t and I wasn’t about to crawl under the truck or risk scaring them further in to traffic. Good place to stop by for a little outing. Deff has creepy angry old man vibes for me now sadly. I gave an extra star for the aesthetic. Maybe keep track of your animals I would say especially young ones. I came to get another pretty monstera but we just...
