Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center — Attraction in Kent

Saw John Mulaney on 11/25/18 and while the show was great, we missed part of the opening act because security was unbelievably inefficient for so many people.

We waited outside in the cold for at least half an hour in a line that stretched across the campus, then received only a token patdown that made the whole thing feel like pointless security theater. I completely understand the need for security, but there has to be a more effective way to ensure it.

Inside, we waited in line some more to get our tickets scanned, then waited in line some more to get a wristband, then had to find our way thru the darkened venue (since the opener was already performing by this point) to our seats via cell phone light, along with dozens of others in the same predicament. Not fun. Especially when we paid 50 bones to sit on bleachers, which were difficult for people to squeeze into if there were already some seated at the ends of any given row. Pretty low quality gymnasium to hold college graduation ceremonies.. they kept the lights dimmed so noone could get decent pictures of the graduates (forces you to purchase the photos the university takes at incredible prices). The bleachers like seating for friends and family were terrible for senior citizens being kneed in the back or having people stand in front of them. The runway type platform constructed for the graduates to walk down after receiving their envelope had big gaudy railings visible during the most important moment in all the expensive university photos. My family and I attended a womens basketball game and had a great time. Go Flashes! The cons, tickets are only available online. I had a little bit of trouble trying to figure out the ticket and seating for my daughters performance. However, upon calling the number provided for the ticket center my issues were quickly sorted and they were super friendly. A gentleman in a blue shirt which is their Event Staff was very rude and wouldnt allow us to enter into the lower ga (where our paid seating was). He told us that the other side of the arena was where we needed to go to, the student section. I just didnt appreciate his attitude and the fact he clearly wrong yet, insistent on where it was...
