The 3 – 5 hour long Deer Mountain Trail is composed of a combination of stone steps, boardwalk, and dirt paths. While the trail measures roughly 3 miles from start to peak, it is rather steep and will take you 3001 ft up the mountain. The hike up took around 2.5 hours and the trek down took 30 minutes. The view from the top of the mountain was gorgeous. You can see the town and the cruise ships docked at the ports.

We were in Ketchikan for 9hrs (cruise ship). This trail was fabulous, well marked, uphill, we only went to the first viewpoint due to time constraints. We also took a uber to trailhead to avoid the long steep walk through the burbs :)

So grateful I found this trail after our cruise excursion was cancelled. This is one of the most beautiful trails I've hiked. Were it not for the occasional plane, it feels much more remote and isolated than it actually is.

Beautiful trail and not too taxing. A nice getaway from the touristy cruise attractions. Hardly anytime on the trail other than locals.

Beautiful hike, middle entrance of both trails. Better to take the north or south entrance and do it all.
