A great little hidden gem! The campground is very inexpensive, quiet, simple, and relaxing. You can fish, ride your bike, go to the park, ride the train, check out kayaks and canoes for free, go to the planetarium, and visit the nature center. We love going and the grandkids absolutely love the awesome little nature center. Right not we’re going through the pandemic so some parts are closed but the camping is open. If my memory is correct, for full hookups it is somewhere between $20-$25, I just don’t remember. The campground is in the heart of Kinston, right on the Neuse River and during the summer sometimes you can hear some of the bands that are playing in the park. This is a safe place to camp with your family and enjoy the great outdoors. They can swim in the river but be careful as the water moves swiftly, especially when it’s high. There is not a swimming pool. They do have a shower house you can drive up too. The spaces are rock, dirt, and leaves. All the spaces have to plenty of space. There is no cable but I can pick up a ton of stations coming out of Raleigh. You can camp and eat downtown Kinston. In fact, I am a local and I still choose to camp here, I love it so much. Why go so far away and spend all your money when you can save money and spend great quality time with...

Our kids loved this park. They have about 6 slides, baby swings, swings for bigger kids, a nature center with animal exhibits and outside animals like birds and owls. Lots of other kids for our kids to play with, they have an old walk in train for kids to walk in and play with, they have really tall slides for bigger kids. They have a huge lake with swinging chairs to sit on and enjoy the scenery. I'm only giving it 4 stars because the water fountain was flooding and looked very unsanitary also there were no bathrooms for when the nature center is closed (if there was porta pottys I sure didn't see them), so I had to pop a squat near the lake and thank God the kids didn't have to use the potty because they would have had to pop a squat too. All in all besides those two factors it is a great park...

I always enjoy bringing the kids out here. It was so much fun for the kids and adults. They have the star gazing show in the planetarium, not to mention the underground tunnel that the kids love. There are also so many hands-on things for the curious kids. The playground is amazing. It will keep the kiddos occupied for hours. Also they have the other building with all the animal displays, and let's not forget the talking bird, Oliver, I believe is his name. Also, underneath the building, they have a cave like area where you can go see more animals. They have a few birds outside as well. Also, I really enjoy sitting on the swings and just looking at the river. And if you wanted to stay the campground is right there as well. A really good time that...

Awesome place for the kids and we felt great about donating to the cause. I did feel really bad for some of the animals though. The injured birds specifically. There is zero enrichment for all three of them (barred owl, red tail hawk and a black vulture) their cages are so small and a bird that size needs room. Even if they can't fly. It's hard to believe a licensed sanctuary/REHAB let those animals go to those depressing conditions. I really hope there is a larger separate cage somewhere and they are moved back and forth. Even the cockatoo was showing repetitive behaviors and staff said he loved to bite and destroy things.
