No longer interested in supporting this business after today, I've been coming here for a few months now spending $45+ a week (roughly two visits a week). 1st time that got me upset was when I got home and the specialty sandwich I ordered wasn't toasted, I told the lady the next time that I wanted it toasted and she replied that we always toast it so you don't have to ask. I told her the story of how it wasn't previously and the bread tasted almost stale so I couldn't enjoy it. Today I ordered a sandwich and paid for it looking at the time stamp 10 minutes have gone by and the people after me are getting their sandwich. The man asks me what sandwich I ordered. I handed him my receipt, he couldn't figure out what I ordered. I told him the sandwich and he just went to work on making me a new one. He told me after that there is an issue with the ticket system. I believe he was being dishonest about what really happened, and I saw people leaving with similar sandwiches that I ordered.. whether they accidently gave mine away or they just forgot to make mine. I would've liked some kind reassurance that it was a one time thing that happened and apologize for taking up more of your time. Just own up to the mistake and be respectful about it. I felt like I was treated wrong today and I'm sure this business will do fine, maybe they can fix these issues and keep more customers. I don't want a free sandwich for this post, that is not how you keep consistent customers.
What I was looking for was a response in the moment from them, "What can I do to make this right?" - Instead I got a lie from them on why they skipped my order. When there is 6 people working in the deli and it wasn't incredibly busy. I expected to get my sandwich in a reasonable time with better...
Read moreThis a great Market and Sicilian Deli located as you enter La Mesa on Spring Street from the east side.
I had the traditional MamaMia torpedo, which came on a terrific Italian crusty roll that offered a great chew as it should be. The torpedo included imported Mortadella, Genoa Salami, Ham, and Provolone Cheese for $12.99. The sandwich also came with shredded lettuce, red onions, salt & pepper, mayo & mustard, tomatoes, and a zesty Italian house dressing.
The torpedo was bliss. I loved the chewy bread and that they put a decent amount of the freshly sliced deli meats. Their flavors came through nicely. The Italian dressing they use is delicious, too. I look forward to trying more of their sandwich combinations on the menu.
They also offer a variety of gelatos, antipasto, and cured deli meats to go. This place is also an Italian and Sicilian specialty market. They offer melee of imported goods for the pantry, kitchen, and your favorite Italian or Sicilian recipes. What stood out to me were the dried pastas, Castelvetrano Olives, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, anchovies, sauces, wines, and imported desserts and sweets. They offer a lot of good stuff.
All the staff members, including the young lady making the sandwiches, were all in high spirits. It's a very cool family run...
Read moreI was so excited for this place to open. Went Saturday opening weekend. The lines were long, good for them, but I do not understand their process. Mona Lisa has this figured out and they are mad crazy all the time. There were 10 people in front of me and it took 45 minutes to order. When I got there I tried to order the octopus salad and was told they were out even though it was still on the menu. I waited 45 minutes, they could have blocked it out on the menu. I still ordered 2 sandwiches since I was there. I got the salami and the spicy Italian. The spicy Italian was missing spicy mortadella, which I later overheard they were out of, but they did not say anything. I would have ordered something different. The salami was the wrong sandwich and unfortunately I didn't find that out until I got home. I drove back and waited in another 30 minute line. Only THREE people ahead of me. They replaced the sandwich and offered me a free soda. The sandwich was good, but certainly not worth the wait. Again, I was excited to see a place like this local, but the experience has was very lacking. I will go back in a few months and see if they got the service and communication straightened out. The food was solid, so I hope to have a better experience when...
