Lion King Truck Stop — Attraction in La Porte

Parking lot has seen better days. No effort to repair the lot either. 9 times out of 10, your food or drink item will most likely be expired... (based on my evaluation today). Makes you wonder about the quality of the Mexican food and chicken that they sell there... Store closes at 8pm till 4am so you are SOL on that end. Only upside is their big variety to choose from. Definitely a safe haven if ur out of hours but not a place to get excited about for a 10 hour break..

Edit. I have to come back and say this too... The place states that they close at 8pm. I'm a truck driver and was unloading half a mile a way.. During this time, i ran out of service hours making this truck stop my home for the night. Now, well aware of this store closing I finally got done unloading and booked it over here so that i could grab dinner, water, ect.. I pulled up at 7:35pm and the doors were locked!!! What BS!! I had to stay the night here as i can not legally driver for 10 hours. I had to endure the night with no water, no food, no bathroom, and no smokes! All because this place decided to close half an hour early. I can guarantee you that i will not give this store anymore of my business. My experience here with their bad attitude and appearance of this place shows that the owners dont care! They know they have somewhat of a money pit since it is so close to the port and serves as a safe haven for drivers. I'll tell ya if flying j or loves opened up shop nearby, it would bury this place and take their crappy...

This place needs a new parking lot and a new fresh coat of paint and well.... some soap i guess. Well maybe just some soap. But the prices are nice, if your on a truck drivers budget. And the LIVE lion! Awesome!! I like their mascot idea. But if your going to keep a real live Lion in a cage on premises, then take care of the animal properly. Poor thing. Its main is all matted up, its ribs are showing, and it barely gets up and moves. I mean I know it must be expensive to feed a wild animal like this big but still if you're going to keep it, feed it. Plus the poor thing attracts so many flies. I think it needs a bath. But it looks like nobody will get close enough to it because well, it's a lion. Still all those things considered I would come here over and over again and bring my kids to see the lion. At least until the poor thing dies. Real dirty truck stop but still probably the best place to stop in the area. Make sure you come see...

I give only four stars because there's no overnight parking there. But it is not the Truck Stops fault. Seems some developer decided to build an apartment complex by it. They got the city to not allow O/N parking. Casher, maybe the owner?, was real nice and told me they are fighting it in court to allow them to put up a fence so they can have O/N parking again. Is this place still in America? Maybe some one moved the boundary line. Lion King was there first. What about making the apartment complex put a fence up? By the way, the parking lot is not Dirt. It's old asphalt. Little rough. But not that bad. No big sink holes in it like you see and can get stuck in at some other...
