When giving a painting to be, "Hung," in a "Show," make sure you check on where it's actually hung.
The painting I gave to be 'Hung," in the Day of the Dead show was hung in the further corner of the back classroom. It couldn't have had staff oversight on most occasions. It ended up being smeared with some kind of gunk. The gunk was water based and I removed most and it abraded the surface of the painting. The painting is ruined due to defacement. It was a well done painting.
It was of A murdered Gay youth, Mathew, with bloody face and open pants tied to a fence. When I walked in for the first time possible, as I was temp. moving to a Hotel for 2 weeks, the room was full of children.
I pulled it the next day and failed to see the 3 semi-translucent smears until I unloaded it and the sun hit it. I looked for scratches or dents while at the COOP. Therefore it's my problem. Not only was this painting clearly not meant for children; I'd rather have had it been rejected due to location limitations if this was the vulnerable area intended for it.
