EDIT: We came back a second time after my first review and the gluten free crust was much the same, but we tried one more time a couple weeks ago and found they had switched to a very good GF dough!!! This time, the pizza was delicious, if a little undercooked. Regardless, suer excited about this.
The service was not great, though, which is why I left 4 stars. We placed an order online, which quoted us a 45 minute wait. We were walking around downtown so I went ahead and called to see if it (one pizza) could be done any sooner. The person on the phone said it would likely be done about 20 minutes sooner than quoted, but couldn't promise anything because they couldn't change the order of things in the kitchen. We did show up about 20 minutes early, because we had a baby with us, and were hoping to get home for the evening. Each time we came in, there was a different person at the front who asked us about our order so I had to re-explain the situation (we didn't want to be inside because of having a baby and COVId risk so I would go out and come back to check), and despite the fact that there were no other folks there waiting on pizzas, no one was willing or able to help us get it done any sooner even though we were there waiting for it. The pizza ended up being done about 10 minutes after the originally quoted time, and there were 3 pizzas done ahead of it that no one had picked up. I think some flexibility in scheduling to go orders would be helpful, which is how other stores on the downtown strip often operate because there are many walk-ins.
--- Original Review: I hate to say it, but the gluten free offering was unfortunate. I was really excited to have gf pizza show up so close to home, but disappointed with the pizza itself. Toppings - delicious (I got the Fun Guy - super yum mushroom pizza), but the GF crust was sad. The crust is not bad in flavor, but is really a cracker instead of a crust, which is not what I expect when I hear wood-fired pizza.
There's a ton of good gluten free food in the area, and a lot of delicious gluten free pizza specifically. -Redacting suggestions-
I truly do not mean this to be rude, and I will happily update my review (stars and content), but it sucks to pay a $3 upcharge for food I can eat, and find it's what gluten free looked like 10 years ago. And don't get me wrong, I'm happy to pay an upcharge! Gluten free is more expensive and that's totally legit, but please make it worth it. Gluten free has come a really long way, and it would be great to see that reflected in your offering. I will definitely be coming back to try again and am suuuper excited to have GF pizza available so close to home...
Read moreWent with my girlfriend. Ordered the “ghost pig” pizza. Which mentions “ghost sauce”, not “ghost PEPPER sauce “. We ordered it with no jalapeños, which should have triggered the server to say “did you not like spicy? Cause that ghost sauce is extremely hot” “ghost refers to ghost pepper”. But she said nothing.
At a restaurant that’s only 3 months old, with no mention of spicy on the menu or for that specific pizza, and not even a picture of a pepper on the wall or any indication that the name Ghost Box pizza would mean ghost sauce would be deadly hot, not just like a white sauce named after their restaurant.. how was I supposed to know? Do you guys love ghost PEPPERS or just have a ghost themed pizza place? There’s no indication anywhere. So when the waitress came over to check how things tasted I said it was way too spicy to eat, she offered a menu to order something else, but with no mention of not charging us for the unedibly spicy pizza. So I didn’t feel like ordering and paying for an additional pizza and asked for the check. A check with no discount or removal of the pizza we ate one slice of arrived. The guy (a customer) at the table next to us came over and said “I’m sorry that happened you, they should’ve told you it was fire hot. I narrowly missed making that same mistake, cause it doesn’t mention spicy or pepper or hot or anything”. Nice of him to say, but sad that the only person with any professionalism was a fellow customer who doesn’t work there.
It should’ve triggered the server to grab a manager when we expressed that the pizza was inedible and that we were ready to leave. But the manager seemed busy drinking at the bar with her friends in between getting up to hand people their to go orders. I would’ve happily discussed a solution with her, but instead we were forced to pay for a full large pizza that we didn’t eat. Because the menu neglects to mention when a food has Ghost Pepper in it (one of the hottest peppers in the world), and when a mistake is made the server just offers for you to spend more money on correcting the problem the restaurant caused. Disappointed. Two stars because it looked like they can probably make good pizza, they just need a tutorial on menu design and...
Read moreThis is a review of two pizzas/experiences.
When I first heard of a new place that did Detroit style pizza, my heart started beating fast. The menu had a couple that got my attention but the one that I needed to try right away was the Ghost Pig. They say it has “red sauce, bacon, charred pineapple, jalapeno, red onion, ghost pepper sauce.” I was curious how spicy the ghost pepper sauce was since most places say an item has it yet it has no flavor or ANY heat. I don’t seek out stuff hot enough to try to kill you but I hope I get some sense of heat. I actually sent a comment on their website and the even invited me to come in a sample the sauce. Nice but I decided to just try it. Ordered it for pick up. They have a few spots reserved in front on the curbside for pickup. They store the pizzas in a warmer right by the door for quick hot pickup. In the car, I could smell the spicy sauce! I get home and can’t wait to start eating. The sauces flavor and spice are perfect. Not too hot but you get a tingle in the throat from it. But from there, I am disappointed. While a see some bits of bacon and onion, I can’t really taste them since they is not much of them. There is only one slice of jalapeño on each slice. Really would like more so you can taste it on more then one bite of a slice. But the biggest problem was the crust. On the second slice, I find most of the slice it is tough and hard to chew on. During my Thursday slice, my jaw actually hurts from trying to get through the crust. In the end, rather disappointed.
But I want to find a Detroit style pizza I can order regularly that isn’t just Little Caesar’s. A month later, I decided to try again but to try another one. I went for Para Papi with green chili, pulled pork, cotija, corn, mozzarella, jalapeño, cilantro. Looks good and again I smell the chili. The meat is more noticeable and I taste it though out the pizza. The green chili tastes really good. Again, light on jalapeños but since unlike the first pizza I taste more then the sauce, it is not as disappointing. And the crust was great! This one saved them.
After this one, I will probably give the ghost pig a second try but would ask them for...
