ArtFields — Attraction in Lake City

Absolute must see hidden town that turned itself totally around in the last 10 years. A true art resource and easy to walk and visit all the fine small local restaurants, shops and antique stores. The local and Amtrak trains run through the town. So many events and activities on the weekends. Saw this town featured on South Carolina PBS, which did an excellent showing of this town. About an 11-minute walk just outside of Church/Main streets is CrossRoads Coach Resort (ROB) RV Park. The only suggestion I’d offer to the great Chamber of Commerce would be to look into getting a Bike Rental shop and bike racks located throughout the city. There’s plenty of off street parking. What a nice idea! I wish my town would have something so family oriented. The first visit was to hear the New Breed Brass Band. Plenty of lawn seating available. Vendors of food and beverages took care of that need and the weather cooperated. Kids ran and cartwheeled around us while an artist painted his depiction of the music played. The second visit was just as nice for the Arts & Drafts event, but the beer tasting was disappointing. Arrived a half hour after the tasting was to begin. The hours were 4-6pm. The majority of the vendors had left. So I traveled 2 hours and spent $20 for a shot glass and the chance to try beer from only 4 companies. I would be leary to try that...

Extremely disappointed with the quality of many pieces this year. The installation pieces were mostly absurd, and there were far too many exhibited. The jurors need to be more discriminating with their choices, choosing examples of the high quality of fine art available here in South Carolina that illustrates the talent in our region, rather than those vying to make their ridiculous political statements. i would not recommend the trip to my fellow artists this year and I hope the quality of the exhibitors improves or many of us will pass on Lake...
