Being a local resident for over 28 years I try really hard to support our local family owned businesses. Today I went into the Shabby Shack Boutique and Book Store which I frequently shop at for my grandkids and friends with little ones. As we all know their tables are quite clusted displaying all their unique items. You also need to pick up items to see the cost. I found a great book "so happy I live in Arizona" that my granddaughter was wanting. When I went to pick it up I didn't realize that a little plaster cactus was supporting the book and it fell onto the floor and broke. The sales girl said what happened so I explained and then she said "well I didn't think it just jumped off the table" she asked the owner what to do and she said just damage it out.. I proceeded shopping and found a special birthday card and paid for it. On my way out she stopped me and informed me that I needed to pay their cost for the cactus. I was like are you serious and she said yes it is $17.00. I paid and let her know that she lost my business along with all my family and friends. She rudely said "are you serious" which I replied Yes. So for those of you who will continue to shop there make sure you never accidentally drop anything or your kids...which it is a children's store as well don't touch anything!    Read moreQuirky and fun, but not quite what I expected. The Shabby Shack and Book Exchange leans more heavily into the âshabby chic gift shopâ vibe than a true book exchange. Think lots of trinkets, tchotchkes, and homey little giftsâcute, but not what I was hoping for in terms of book browsing.
There was a small section of sale books and a modest nook of older used titles, which had a bit of charm and character. I found a few interesting covers to flip through, but nothing that made it home with me.
Overall, itâs a nice little distraction for about an hourâespecially if youâre into browsing gift-y thingsâbut if youâre looking for a wide or deep book selection, this might not be your stop. Still, worth popping in if youâre in the area and curious.

Read moreI absolutely love Our Shabby Shack & Book Exchange! I stop in often and always find something special. Their wide selection of books has helped me stay on track with my goal of reading a new book each monthâ9 so far this year! Itâs also my go-to for thoughtful gifts, especially their high-quality baby items (perfect for my new niece), unique items to add to gift baskets, and even beautiful pre-made baskets when Iâm short on time.
Beyond that, Iâve found everything from local art and jewelry to clothing and home dĂ©cor. Itâs one of those magical places where you never leave empty-handed. Plus, supporting this wonderful family-owned business feels goodâespecially knowing how much they give back through programs like Adopt-a-Teacher and their support of our local community. Truly a...
