Crunch Fitness - Lakeland — Attraction in Lakeland

I actually really like the gym and the classes. My problem is the predatory nature of the personal training.

You get a “free” assessment and of course at the end is the sales pitch. I knew this was coming because my husband signed up for it.

There is a special $125 for 2 sessions then you can sign up for a different amount of session per week/month moving forward.

I went ahead and signed up with Nathan because he was fun and I really enjoyed his enthusiasm. I was told I had 3 days to cancel to get a full refund. I did decide to refund because I decided $800 (that includes my husband and I) was too much to pay for a gym that we signed up to based on the low cost to join.

I cancelled within 3 days but then was told...oops it’s not 3 days it’s specifically 72 hours and you were too late but no worries you will still get a great work out and can then we can drop it down to the least amount of session possible and save you money that way. And to basically not bother trying to argue because corporate is really strict. So I didn’t.

Then about a week later my trainer said how about you just sign up for the 3 lesson package for $148 and it will allow you to cancel the $200 every other week and you won’t owe anymore money. So I did that. You guessed it I paid the $148 and a couple of days later and ADDITIONAL $200 was taken out of my bank account.

I called to complain and was told that the personal trainer manager would call me tomorrow. No call for 2 days. Then instead of a call I get a TEXT from my trainer saying...oops you didn’t cancel the $200 within 10 days (was never told about a 10 day stipulation) so we can’t refund that money but you are good to go after that and then the money will stop.

So I text back that it was very unprofessional to text me and not return my phone call and I would be reaching out my bank to stop payment. Over a week now and have not heard a word from anyone!!!

Run! Do NOT take the “free” fitness assessment!!

Update: I saw the answer where it is stated that they think I “embellished”, basically saying I lied. Well I spoke with them at the gym and they were able to verify my timeline based on previous conversations and my days I checked in. Ended up getting my money back.

At least on the store level they know I didn’t “embellished” and thought it was pretty outrageous that corporate...

Worst Experience ever. I went in to check out the place and met with Crystal and was told that I can have a 1 hour session with a trainer to see how I like the Experience and if I want to join. I signed up (for the 1 hour session, so I thought)

She had me sign papers and asked for a bank account number. I told her I only want to check out if I want to join and she told me to still go ahead and sign, and if I wish to join, I can bring my bank account information. They took out 5 cents and also $10 for the 1 day, 1 hour with the trainer to show me the ropes. (This itself should be proof enough that I did NOT sign up for a contract with Crunch Fitness and I never gave them my consent for $28.99)

I never took the session and saw another transaction of $28.99 taken out of my credit card.

This is so Shady and Crystal was very aggressive and even told me to go on Google and give her a review while she was sitting tricking me into signing a contract which I was told repeatedly that it is just paper work and I can decide after the 1 hour session with the trainer ("see how you feel and if you want to join"). When I didn't go to Google while she was sitting in front of me she went, "do it right now".

I told her, "I will later". She said, "You will forget". How unprofessional. (Who does that?)

And why first ask for my bank account information for automatic draft and tell me to bring it later but then go behind my back and charge my credit card?

I called and spoke to Crystal and was threatened with "oh I will be here" (when I asked to speak to her supervisor).

This is so unprofessional and unethical.

I called my credit card company and put a block on the account.

I never been to the place since that 1 time and would not deal with Shady business people.

It is obvious that these people work in commission or how many people they sign up. They have no accountability on how they sign people up because then the matter goes to accounts department.

It is all good though. They can get collections or whomever. I got my money back and won't give them another penny until they apologize and...

I am writing to address a recent issue regarding my membership and the unprofessional conduct I experienced with Emory Wolf-Bielawa I was recently charged an unauthorized amount from my bank accounts on December 6, 2024 for $863 i am also concerned about the disrespectful manner in which I was treated during my interaction with Emory Wolf-Bielawa via email the card that was fragile charge was not a part of a contract and was never authorized in their system or on paper just a random regular purchase of a Celsius and the next thing I know on December 6 I receive a charge of $863 which was fraud and scam as per federal law when ask, who was the person who had saved my card without my authorization or consent and how did they get the charge to be authorized they apologize and said it was the system default They told me I could cancel my PT account without any penalty as it was a great inconvenience for me, I didn't wanna keep the account anymore because I have lost my trust doing business with crunch in Lakeland and something was never adding up I didn't As I'm a strong believer in no trust no business they say I should wait until I receive my $863 Furthermore, I was treated in a disrespectful manner by Emory Wolf- interacting with in via email I refuse to have any more conversation with him I would love to speak with someone from the corporate level and I also request that you address this matter to ensure that such behavior is not tolerated in the future.
