First of all, I love this guy. He is so nice and friendly you can't help but want to go round up all of your broken vacuums and take them to Steve to repair.
I had (note past tense) a Bissel steam cleaner that wasn't working. I took it in, he cleaned it all up, told me that the brushes need to stay clean, etc. or it won't work properly. Took it home and let it sit for a few weeks before I used it. Well, the soap wasn't dispensing, so I took it back. It was all gunked up again (I vacuumed before, but apparently my vacuum wasn't working properly either). I told him the soap still wasn't dispensing. He said he'd look at it but he was going to charge me again. Fine, I just want it to work.
I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and used it this weekend. Soap dispenser STILL not working but otherwise it is rinsing and picking up water OK. Then, water starts shooting out of the hose with the hand tool. I haven't used t he tool and the dial is set to FLOOR, not tool. Water everywhere, then I look down and water is coming out of the tank too. I'm cursing and yelling for my hubby to come help and the whole thing shorted out. I really think I could have been electrocuted. The outlet is shot too. I checked and didn't blow the breaker, but the outlet won't work.
I race over to the neighbors, get her exact same Bissel to soak up the water and finish the job. How nice it was to have a soap dispenser that worked.
Anyway, I'm out $80 that I could have put toward a new machine. The moral to my story is when you pick up your machine, immediately check to make sure it is working properly. I might have saved myself another $40 service charge. And even though I almost got fried, I will still take my broken vacuums to Steve for repair. I think I had a...
Read moreBought expensive ($800+) Miele vac. 3 mo. ago.Bought from this store as they repaired old vacuum in past and Steve was nice. Was told by Steve (owner) at time only known problem was power cord. If it occurred it was an easy repair and free of charge. Vacuum died after 13 weeks. Called him and he said probably power cord- bring it in, bring canister only. Checked on internet and they suggested same problem.Arrived and he 1st asked where rest of vac. attachments were. I said you only said to bring canister- I did bring canister and hose. He threw hands up in air and made face and said probably power cord problem. He plugged in and it worked. Said not broken, nothing he could do. He pulled cord in and out 2x and said nothing wrong. I explained I lived 45 miles away- each way and wouldn't have brought in if it was working for me. He said can't fix because wasn't broke. Very short with me. I put vac. in car and stepped back into store and said I bought this vacuum because you recommended it and you were sure a lot nicer before you got my money. I left and got in my car. He came out of the store, banged on my car window and yelled at me. I locked the door, made no eye contact. started car and left with him screaming at me. Scared me to death. Please find a different place to go for a repair or purchase if you need one. I never raised my voice, swore, etc.- just said I was unhappy it was broke. I don't want new vacuum or money, just wanted it fixed. By the way, I got home and it won't work again. $800 down the drain if I can't find a place to fix. I will be contacting the manufacturer today for...
Read moreOn my first visit to Sew & Vacuum World I met Steve, who replaced the hose on my Bissell carpet cleaner while I waited. He was warm, funny, generous of spirit, and very knowledgeable. His shop is unique in that he has at his fingertips a large inventory of products and parts for nearly every need. This is a huge contrast to many shops that only carry bags, belts and filters and are hungry to diss your machine, downplay the value of repairing it and pressure you to buy a sleek, top-rated, thousand-dollar vacuum from their ample displays. Not that these vacuums are not worth the investment, but Steve is a practical straight-shooter who will sell you only what you need to make the most of your current appliance investment. He also knows landfills are full of vacuums and carpet cleaners with plenty of life left (which rightfully peeves him). Very likely he has exactly in stock what is required for your machine and can repair it quickly and affordably.
Please don’t Eeny, Meeny, Mynee your choice for a vacuum or carpet cleaner repair. Skip the runaround and exorbitant cost and take your broken and indispensable tools to Steve. If everyone did business the way he does, it really would be a...
