I hate to leave a negative review, but I feel I need to share my experience. I initially visited Local Tech in December 2024 for a small PC upgrade—specifically, a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM to support my 2070 Super GPU, which I hoped would save me some money. While I have some tech experience (currently studying Computer Science and having built two PCs), I’m still fairly new to working with BIOS and ensuring components are compatible.
First, I want to acknowledge that the staff at Local Tech were friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. The cost for their consultation was about $108 with taxes included, which seemed reasonable at the time.
Here’s where things went south. After diagnosing my PC, the technician believed the issue was with my 2070 Super GPU and suggested replacing it to resolve the problem. I was present while the technician worked, and he swapped his own GPU into my system, which allowed it to boot into BIOS. However, here's the first problem: The technician spent a significant amount of time running benchmarks and stress tests. While doing this, he also attempted to install Star Citizen on my PC—something I still don't understand the purpose of, as it seemed unrelated to diagnosing my issue.
After a lot of back and forth, I was convinced (despite my doubts) that the GPU needed replacing. Here’s the second issue: When I went to leave, I noticed the technician was acting strangely, as if he was hiding my 2070 Super from me. As a former military police officer, I’m fairly observant, and my gut told me something wasn’t right. He insisted the GPU was broken, though I still wasn't convinced.
Fast forward—after getting a new GPU, the system still wouldn’t boot, not even to BIOS. I ended up going to MDC Technology, where they quickly determined that my PC was running on a beta BIOS (my mistake for not double-checking the version) and that Windows 10 was causing conflicts with the hardware. They recommended upgrading to Windows 11 and suggested increasing my SSD storage from 1TB to 2TB, as I was running low on space.
The worst part? When I shared my experience with MDC, they informed me that my 2070 Super was perfectly fine—exactly as I had suspected. MDC even thought that perhaps the technician at Local Tech was trying to get a new GPU off me.
In the end, I spent far more time and money than I should have because I trusted Local Tech. Honestly, I would have been better off building a new PC myself. While MDC’s services are more expensive (double the price of Local Tech’s), they were professional, knowledgeable, and actually got my system up and running. They don’t waste time installing random games, and they stick to the task at hand.
If you’re looking for quality service, I highly recommend MDC Technology...
Read moreIt is hard for me to convey how pleased I am with Local Tech and Albert. I have been shopping for a laptop for some time and it has been hard to find one that will run the software I intend to run that is within my budget.(which was not alot). I have also been to some of Local Tech's competitors and have seen them matket used products at the cost of new. Seeing a sign out front in the strip mall at their location with a sale on laptops I on a whim decided to stop in to see what they had. Admittedly i had a reserved attitude and did not think i was going to find/buy a computer today, actually I thoroughly expected to be let down. I tell Albert that I am looking for a laptop and he shows me a few laptops that are priced great but just are literally too good for my needs. So we get to talking and I am reluctant to tell him what I am using it for since most people know little about it (A Digital Audio Workstation)but to my surprise he knows all about it and then some. Albert even has some great stories about it. Anyways Albert produces a couple more laptops that fit me perfectly at a cost that is well below my budget!!!! Then he throws in extras that fit all and I mean ALL of my needs. The deal is so good that I would be dumb to refuse it. The place is that good!!! I personally like keeping my money in the community as much as possible but have been unable to due to cost retraints or quality issues, so i wind up talking to someone with little knowledge on the issue like at big chain stores. Then get home and find out I also needed this and that. That is not the case with Local Tech it is a Gem of a store with very knowledgeable humble people with great products and prices. This is my new GO TO place for anything computer related. I was simply blown away with everything and that rarely happens these day..JUST WOW!!!. I feel like i don't have to waste time on the internet searching tirelessly for the perfect deal, or shopping around/waiting for sales anymore, I can just call Local Tech and say this is what i am doing and that is a great feeling. So if you'll allow me to suggest if your looking for a computer/computer related products to check this place out on a budget or not!! And Thank you again...
Read moreI run a remote astronomical observatory with very sophisticated equipment and software. 2 computers, 2 telescopes and multiple cameras and other devices. One day the main remote desktop just died and wouldn't respond at all after about 3 years of use. I suspected a motherboard or power supply failure and wasn't sure it could be salvaged at a reasonable cost vs just buying a new machine. I thought I would try local tech. Wasn't sure about them but saw they had pretty decent reports overall. They diagnosed the motherboard failure the same day, ordered the replacement board the same day and had it installed in 1 week. I saved about $200 repairing this machine vs buying a new one. This is a major hardware problem that they were able to help me with and restore the machine to exactly the way it was before the failure, like nothing happened. Everything is up and running now and I'm back in the galaxy again! Downtime was only 1 week! I will definitely use them again and was happy to find someone local who actually knows what they are doing. Don't let the small warehouse appearance fool you. They have a lab close by where the work is done in a totally dust free environment. Very professional operation! Highly recommended without reservation!...
