The only reason why Im not giving them a 1 star review, is because I can actually see. Ironically I can also see, in hind sight, how little they prepared me for the surgery. Lets walk through this together from the top as I carefully carve out my trauma from this facility.
Upon entering, the facility is clean. They started out very friendly. If you are a good candidate for lasik they are more excited than a championship winning cheerleader captain, and want you to sign up for surgery ASAP. This was fine...okay sure.
Then..there was a scragly woman who asked you, "Do you have any questions for me?" and if you take time to think of a question she will grow irritated with you.
PLEASE feel free to ask as many questions as possible. You are paying a lot of money for a dangerous operation. It is there job to provide you with information. She told me I would be ready to go to work the next day no problem. Thankfully I took the day off the next day, because it took over a month to completely heal.
The day of surgery, I signed multiple pages about how I could potentially go blind and that they are not to be responsible for such events. Okay...sure. The doctor was a young male rocking Jordan's and quite nonchalant. He told me, "Make Sure you dont move." He pried my eye open and wedged an opener in to keep my eye lids seperated. Pressed a suction cup microscope onto it with a lot of force (Brutal) and then the machine started. "Aghgh you moved." He says.
Mind you I am temporarily blinded and freaking out. "What just happened?" I stammered in slight shock. He tells me oh nothing its just you cant squint, or have even micro movements for about a minute straight. This is the information that should have been brought to my attention from day one. The fact that there will be an intense amount of pressure on my eye ball and I can not even move a single muscle for 60 seconds while lasers shoot into my eyes. Now add a nonchalant doctor dressed for first day of freshman semester and potential blindness.
I learned my lesson after that and my Right eye went smoothly, but it is truly an extreme urge Im fighting to not move or glitch a single muscle. The Left eye failed a second time and the doctor tells me, "I suggest we perform PRK on your left eye." I said, "what is PRK?" This man had to look it up on his fkn cell. He googled it claiming it had been a long time since he pronounced the entire acronym. Doesn't even have it written down somewhere! TRAUMA. I let the doctor scrape off the skin of my eye, which I can see him doing, to perform PRK. They put a contact on my Left eye and tell me they'll take it out in 5 days.
5 days later, during my contact removal and overall checkup, the scragly lady said, "Do you have any questions for me?" I said, "Are there any foods I should avoid, obviously sugar and alcohol will prevent hydration, and are there any foods I could benefit from?" Ms. Scragly seriously missed her mark as food is medicine, but what doctor in America would prescribe healthy sleep hygiene and food disclipine to aid with a healing process? She told me, "Just be smart."
Moral of my trauma, is research and ask as many questions as possible. The people in this facility do so many operations each week that they are completely disconnected to what it is like for a first time patient to undergo this type of operation. If the scragle woman still works there, you will understand exactly who I am talking about when she says, "Do you have any questions?" as if a single question would ruin her day. Lastly, make sure your doctor can spell out the acronym of a procedure forwards and backwards, especially if they dress for a...
Read moreI was obviously lured in because of their great advertised price. I figured there was no way I would only be paying a couple hundred per eye, but I did like that it was at least a free consultation and I wanted to see what they had to offer.
Other offices in town not affiliated with this company charge consultation fees. One doctor in particular that I had an appt with didn't even show up for his appt with me, nor did the office have the courtesy to tell me and reschedule the appt...I didn't find out till I showed up for my appt! Again, this was a DIFFERENT doctor than LASIK Institute.
The consultation was thorough and answered all my questions. I was planning on shopping around but they have all the information on what doctors charge for consultations and LASIK so it saved me time (and I did verify a few of the prices to make sure they were accurate). I made an appt for my LASIK procedure. They have the routine down.
On the day of my appointment it was like an assembly line of patients going in to get their eyes done. Thankfully I wasn't first in line because I would have been more nervous. Waiting time beforehand was about 30 minutes. Prep time where they go over what you'll need to do post-op and get your eyes prepped was about another 20 minutes. They told me to notify my ride to be there in 15 minutes from that point because that is when I would be done. They administered some drops into my eyes, numbing drops I imagine. I laid down on a table and they worked on one eye at a time, about 5 minutes per eye. The laser part is only about 10 seconds but there is prep work to the eye that is needed that makes the procedure longer. Dr Yee talked during the whole time and I knew what to expect. I did not feel any pain but was very aware of what was taking place. I was able to appreciate the amazing technology of the whole process so I wasn't too nervous. It really is amazing. My vision was blurry afterwards, like looking underwater. Irritation onset a few hours later, I could barely open my eyes. My procedure was at 1:15 and at 8PM that night I could start noticing a difference. It was just about already perfect at that time. The irritation had subsided, but my eyes were still watery. The next day the irritation and runny eyes were subsided, but I could tell the incisions were still a little sensitive when I used my eye drops. By the 3rd day I could tell no difference other than amazing eyesight!
It has now been 6 days and I have no discomfort, my eyes aren't overly dry or itchy, I have no headaches, and my eyesight is perfect! I am so happy with this experience. I had some doubts reading reviews. I felt the office was very thorough with communication, and that Dr. Yee did a fantastic job on my eyes. Eye drops are super important and do not rub your eyes. I bought the lifetime warranty for both eyes and got the plug inserts to help with dry eyes. The price was less than I had budgeted, but it is definitely not hundreds per eye like advertised. Still, this procedure is priceless to me and I feel like I got a great deal with a great experience...
Read moreHad both eyes done in Jan 2017! (One for distance and one for close up)The whole process from the 1st call to the procedure was great! They set my 1st appt/ consultation within a couple of days and the procedure within a week. I believe it cost me almost $2k, which I didn’t have at the time so they were able to set me up on an in house payment plan with a small down payment so that I wouldn’t have to put it off. I was so grateful for that option since my vision was getting worse by the day it seemed. The only regret is that I took so long to look into this I suffered for years? And of course there has so be something I didn’t care for. That would be the smell of the lasers burning my eyes or whatever it was doing. And that was terrifying! And they make such a point to remind you over and over again not to move your head at all during the procedure that it scars you even more. But it didn’t hurt at all and I had perfect vision by the next morning. I can still remember the feeling of being able to see as soon as I woke up. I couldn’t help but to cry when I was able to read my drivers license and the Advil bottle completely, just 10 mins after opening my eyes. And being able to see what I look like in the mirror while putting on makeup without working around my eye glasses and driving at night and seeing just as well as I could during the day was amazing! I would highly recommend anyone to come here and get LASIK surgery as soon as possible and stop suffering and dealing with the expense and hassle of eyeglasses and contact lenses and being blind when you first wake up in the morning and maybe even having multiple pairs of glasses for all your different vision needs. it’s so not worth it when you have such an awesome solution to the problem. I have...
