Checkers Foods — Attraction in Lawrence

Wow what a horrible experience I had at the store. I bought a fill brisket from the store on the 23 of December for a dinner coming up. O didn't realize my brother had already purchased one. I went the next day t return my purchase only to be told by an assistant that there's no returns for meat purchases. I don't like making a big deal of things as such. But, the meat was about 15 lbs and around $68.00. I asked to speak with a manager, he comes out very rude insisting that the store didn't have to give a refund. Now, I'm curious as to why a grocery store that sells food to the public doesn't make it clear regarding what items can be returned and which can't. They also told me it's against health code regulations to accept returned meat hmmm. What happens if you find a better price? Or if the product is bad? The customers are stuck with something they don't need and just out of the money. Also it would have saved me the inconvenience of coming back to the store.! It's funny I've never experienced this at Hy-Vee or Dillon's before or any other store for that matter. at It's common courtesy at the very least, to state ANYWHERE what items can and cannot be returned. An unspoken gem, I think people, like I did it first think that it is simply a budget grocery store. On the contrary, the produce is extremely fresh and the selection, very extensive. If you go on Thursdays you will find fruit at half price which isn't even better deal considering the fruit is already very inexpensive. I find some of the best mangoes and peaches during summer months than anywhere else in town. as far as the rest of the groceries I find the same familiar Brands I would buy it Dillons for a much cheaper price. In fact I would say that most everything is at least slightly cheaper from baby foods to dairy products. The only downfall of Checkers would be a only a small selection of organic foods between makeup for by going to the local co-op. definitely worth your trip to buy at least half the groceries you would normally buy a Dillons and if you eat organic you could substitute the rest of your list for me it's at the Merc or Whole Foods. Checkers is a gem of a grocery. At first glance, with the fluorescent lighting, it appears to be a store going out of business but that’s not the case. Checkers sells all kinds of international foods - from frozen tamales to bibimbap to soft blue corn tortillas. Many regional groceries don’t carry some of the things you’ll find here. Decent produce section but limited organic produce options (I’d love to see more). Their sales are amazing, sometimes I’m shocked at the low prices I’ve found there. They’re responsive to customer requests too. I asked that they start carrying a certain brand of bar soap and they obliged. I appreciate that they always have staff working in the checkout lines since I always have trouble with the self checkout. I hope that employees like working there; since I haven’t been employed there, I can’t weigh in on how it is to work there. Staff are always nice to me. Overall, it’s my favorite grocery...
