I am absolutely livid. PC Laptops DOES NOT CARE about what you need, they only care about taking your money. (Edit at bottom)
My father doesn't know a lot about computers, but brought his old PC in due to a virus. He asked them to remove the virus. Other than the virus, the computer was working perfectly for his needs. INSTEAD of removing the virus, he was told that he needed to buy a new computer. $2,500 later, he has to rebuy all of the programs he uses because they were also NOT honest about programs transferring.
He was told that he would be fine without Microsoft Word because the computer would have NOTEPAD on it! It's taking advantage of someone that obviously doesn't know what he's doing to go from hey, please remove the virus from my computer to selling him a $2,500 computer for him to use the internet and MS Word. PC Laptops DOES NOT CARE about what you need. There are far more reputable shops you should take your business to.
The products they put inside also don't make sense, it has a 600w gold power when he's not doing anything power intensive (they didn't even put a graphics card in it, that reinforces that they built it understanding it's a lower power build). A gamer cooler for the midrange ryzen that again... will NEVER be run at higher temps. And it would be one thing if it was set up that I could just give it to my brother who needs a gaming PC, but because they put a subpar motherboard and a midrange chip it's not even worth adding a graphics card to....
My dad would have been happy with a $500 computer. It's taking advantage of an old man that doesn't know any better to go from needing to remove a simple virus to talking him into buying a computer five times more expensive than what he needs.
The day after I posted this review, they called my dad to ask him to remove this review. They did not offer to remedy the situation in any way, only stated that they built the SAME PC that they had built ten years ago and charged the same amount. AS IF THAT MADE IT BETTER?!?!
To clarify, here are my issues with that statement: If the components on that computer were perfectly fine WHY DID YOU NOT JUST REMOVE THE VIRUS?!?! Those components are old tech. They WOULD NOT cost the same today as they did ten years ago.
They migrated the data off the old computer, which means that nothing was lost to the virus. It would have been EASY for them to remove the virus AS PART OF THEIR FREAKIN WARRANTY but they sold him a new, identical component computer, for way more than it should have been.
I'm flabbergasted by the explanation of why it's fine they took advantage...

I purchased my new computer from PC Laptops this February (2016, 6 months ago) as the hard drive was dying in my previous one, also purchased from PC Laptops. I brought the old one in to get it fixed, but the computer was a bit old and far gone, so we decided to build a new one. I went with the solid state hard drive and most of what Daniel Fox recommended. I don't game on my PC, so I didn't go overboard on that side. I did get the 1 year subscription to Super Easy Backup, ESET NOD32 Antivirus, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. My unit ended up costing $2538.00 before trade in value and taxes. This is more than I have ever spent on a PC before. Boy, was it worth it!!!!
My observations: Booting up windows 10 on my old computer took about 3 or 4 minutes when it was not being slow. New computer; Windows 10 is up in about 11 seconds. I use a technical analysis program for stock trading called Telecharts 2000 published by Worden brothers. On the old computer it used to take about 2 minutes to load up the program, and then 5 to 8 minutes to download data over the internet. New computer: last Friday it loaded in 8 seconds and updated in 31 seconds. I timed it.
I still use AOL for most of my email. The old computer took about 2 minutes to get to my AOL email. New computer; about 15 to 20 seconds or less. I thought I had slow internet. I had a slow computer.
Last Friday a family member opened and Email that said it was from Publishers Clearing House. It may have been. She clicked on a link in the Email, and heard the computer say "Your system may be infected with Malware. Please call the phone number shown," blah, bla, bla. She closed the browser and email, and later told me about it. She was concerned; I was concerned, so I opened and ran Malware Bytes. In 3 minutes and 8 seconds it scanned like, I think it was maybe 128,000 files or more: no malware found. That's peace of mind! If my files get lost, they are out there on Super Easy backup. The Antivirus program updates every time I turn the computer one, and then again every few hours with no lag in performance. I don't even know it's updating until it's done.
It has taken me 6 months to properly say thank you to PC Laptops in Layton. THANK YOU guys!!! I LOVE my new computer. I don't know how many hours it has saved me, and will continue to save me in the future. I also love not questioning...
Read morePC Laptops is THE place to go to buy a new computer. The also provide outstanding service as well. I just bought my new computer from them about a month ago and I'm kicking myself for not going to them years ago. Here's my situation. I had a computer that was about 8 years old and was starting to act up and not run as good. One day it finally just stopped working completely. Turns out the hard drive crashed. I was pretty panicked since I had a bunch of data that I had come to rely on and now I couldn't access it. I looked around at the Big Box stores and found one thing in common with all of them, they all had great deals on the older outdated stuff and Refurbished computers but the newer more current processors and equipment was expensive. I knew that PC Laptops had great products from talking to all my friends, and also knew that they were a little bit pricier than the Big Box stores, but I decided to stop in to their Layton store and check them out anyway. Man, am I ever glad I did! The price for a new top quality system was only around $200.00 more than any computer at the Big Box stores that could even come close to it as far as what components it had. But the one thing they offered that made up for the extra $200 it cost was their AMAZING lifetime parts and service warranty that comes with their computers. It was a no-brainer for me that the extra money was well worth the value, quality, and lifetime service I get with their system. I am forever a loyal, lifetime customer of theirs. Yeah, they have some quirky commercials (They actually make me laugh), but get past that and do yourself a favor and go into one of their stores the next time you're looking to get a GREAT Computer! They have EXCELLENT customer service and OUTSTANDING Technicians who will work with you to get you into a computer that fits your needs, wants, and desires. As corny as it sounds, They Really Do Love You! Oh, and probably one of the best parts of my experience was that they were able to recover and load ALL my data from my old hard drive onto my new state of the art computer FOR FREE! Thanks...
