High quality little bit of everything museum, and affordable. Glad to hear about their expansion. I learned a lot, this isn't a repeat of every natural history museum in the area either! Everytime I've gone people are so nice and it's not crowded. I remember when my son was a toddler they gave him a few presents. When my son got older he couldn't remember the place and thought it would be boring but changed his mind after seeing a high quality virtual reality tour--the best I've seen--online. I'm happy to hear that they've contracted with service missionaries to help with environmental work and service projects and I support that (and hope they've made it neutral to all beliefs--unfortunately it doesn't look that way which is controversial for a city-owned museum). It is a little awkward assigning them be available to answer questions when there's evolution exhibits and american history exhibits that force them to take a mainstream approach in spite of their beliefs. I'm just saying they shouldn't be put in positions like that simply to help the museum keep costs low; let's be a little more sensitive. Other than that, and a place to eat that's not just on the grounds...
Read moreWe loved how old everything is here including the building. They have adventure backpacks for the little ones to borrow with a small stuff animal buddy and magnificent glass. My kids loved them! They also had a scavenger hunt for the kids. That kept them entertained. When they finished their scavenger hunt they got to pick out a small polished rock for my 6, o and 10 year old and my 4 year old got to pick out a candy cane from the store. They were so thoughtful since my 4 year old will still put things in his mouth and the rock could be dangerous for him. They had real historical items that aren’t for little ones to play with and they also had hands on items and toys for little ones. We were the only customers there at the time which was nice. All the staff was warm and kind in their interactions. We went for my daughter’s 5th grade assignment and it was such a refreshing experience in comparison to the large main stream museums. My husband really likes it as well since he is into US history. We highly recommend...
Read moreVERY impressive collection of rocks! I doubt you can find more entertainment for $5 in all north Utah County (including free samples at Costco). IMPORTANT - when you go, you HAVE to ask for a tour from Elder Will. He's a wealth of knowledge with natural history and Native American artifacts. He was able to add personal stories such as the painting from his uncle. It up-leveled the experience to something more in the $15-$17/pp area. They also have arrowhead making classes the first Saturday of the month from 11:00 - 2:00 that Elder Will teaches. I counted more than 16 rooms! All with a different theme! One of them even had live animals we were able to pet. If you've ever been confused by the "Natural History Museum" signs on I-15, this is the place they're referring to! I was baffled for years before finding this gem.
Next time you think about a movie, high speed Go Karts, or any other overrated activity in the area, put the Hutchins Museum...
