It is worth noting a couple things; first, we've been coming here for several years. Second, the restaurant has recently changed ownership and its menu.
We arrived at 5:05pm. Our group consisted of 9 people, 4 couples and an unmarried sibling. We were seated within a couple minutes of arriving. Upon taking our drink order i was informed that they no longer serve the coconut water that I so loved. Oh well, I'll try the Thai sweet tea, which was good. Upon taking our order we were told that they no longer have an all you can eat menu. They now charge by the roll. Ok, we decided to give it a go. You buy two rolls and get the third free. Many of the rolls are priced differently. We all placed our orders, Mom and Dad did not order sushi, mom ordered the teriyaki chicken dinner and dad ordered the shrimp tempura dinner. All orders were placed by about 5:20pm.
At about 5:30pm mom and dad were both served their dinners. The portion sizes and the quality have both gone down hill. I asked for a refill of the sweet tea and was informed that it would be an additional charge. Ok, no big deal, it's a specialty drink, I get it. My wife also asks for a refill, she had an orange soda. We were also charged for that refill.
Having been coming here for several years, we are accustomed to a 30 minute, or so, wait for the sushi. We know this, we expect this, but the quality has always been very good. Sushi house in American Fork has faster service but the quality has always been about 1 step down from East Moon. So we're willing to wait. However this time, we'd already been there for about 30 minutes and the waitress told us that it would be another 30 minutes. Although slightly annoyed at this point, we decided to patiently wait and enjoy our conversations instead of getting upset.
About 25 minutes later, Mom and Dad are done with their meals and finally the sushi starts to arrive. The are three rolls on each plate, but instead of bringing each person what they ordered, they mixed the rolls up on each plate so that my brother, who was sitting 4 people away from me, got one of my rolls, one of his rolls and one of my sisters rolls. This type of pattern continued as each platter was brought to the table. Now I have never in my life sent anything back, never, having been in the restaurant business at one time for a few years I understand how frustrating that can be for both the cook and the waitress, so I make it a point to be overly patient. But if we're being charged by the roll, and each roll is individually priced, I want the rolls I paid for. For the first time in my life, I sent back the plates and asked them to organize the rolls according to who ordered what. The waitress did and brought them back. However, my sister was never served.
We were seated in the back of the restaurant. From our vantage point we could see an extra plate of sushi sitting on the counter. As our waitress was busy helping other customers at the register, other waiters were standing up front with nothing to do and shooting the breeze with each other. 10 minutes go by until we ask about my sister's sushi. It was finally brought over to her.
Previously we always knew what to expect price wise. This time it was about $15 more, and the quality, quantity, and service has gone way down. We will not be back. Now it's just average sushi, not great. If im going for average sushi, I want it quickly and less expensive. For that, Sushi House in American Fork is the best. If I'm going for sushi in Utah county again, it'll be at Sushi House, not East Moon. By the way, I live in Manti now and we really don't have any sushi places down here, we went up there to meet with family and enjoy a meal at a good restaurant. We were sorely disappointed.
One last note, after we had made our disappointment politely known, there was no offer to make it right from anybody there. I'm so sorry to see it go down...
Read moreMy husband and I were seated right away and received our first order right away after confirming several times that we were both wanting to order all you can eat sushi. When they brought our first order (3 rolls) they thought only my husband was getting all you can eat sushi and were explaining that he couldn't share. After clearing it up, they brought our dishes so we could finally start eating. There were 4 different waiters/waitresses that would come around to check on us, seated us, got drinks, etc. So we had to tell several people that we had been helped, etc. After ordering our second round of sushi (2 rolls) we waited over 25 minutes and couldn't get anyone to help us. We sat there with empty drinks anxiously waiting for service. Finally, my husband got the attention of someone and told her we had been waiting. She checked and said our "order was ready but...in order......" then the rest was inaudible as she hurried off. A few minutes later our drinks were refilled and our waiter was very apologetic once he heard how long we had been waiting. My husband wanted to leave and asked for the check. The waiter went and got our food immediately and apologized again then told us he'd go get our bill. When he came back, he said they took 10% off for the trouble. We paid and were finishing up our food when one of the staff members who had been waiting on us came up to our table very upset. The man who brought our check was with her. She demanded to know who gave us 10% off and wanted to know if we had any coupons. We were very confused. My husband explained that we had waited over half an hour with empty drinks and no food, and it wasn't too busy, so we were told we got the discount to make up for it. She said she had to charge us again to make up for the 10% that we didn't qualify for since we didn't have a coupon. The 10% was 4 dollars.... The guy who gave us our check kept saying it was already discounted in the computer and that he had no idea who did it and he assumed it was because we had been waiting so long. They started clearing our table while we were being interrogated about the check before we had even finished our food. We were shocked and just looked at each other in disbelief. We paid the $4 on another transaction and tipped 10%. (We usually tip 20-30%). When the woman brought our receipt she offered us a punch card. My husband told her we wouldn't be needing it and we left. The sushi was decent, but they need to reevaluate how the tables are waited and the one woman shouldn't deal with customers. She was very hard to understand and came off very harsh and was in our faces and hovering over our food interrogating us while we were still...
Read moreThe food and prices are good but I'm sorry to say the service was not. When we walked in, we were greeted but not given menus. No problem. Some restaurants have them at the table. When we sat down it was immediately apparent that there were no menus at the table either. The hostess/waitress walked away before I realized this. We sat there for about 5 minutes totally confused as to why she hadn't come back with menus and to take our drink order but finally I spotted her and was able to flag her down. I asked about menus and she said in a somewhat puzzled way, "sure". Her puzzlement made me even more confused. This is a sit down restaurant. Why wouldn't you give people menus right away? Well, she came back with one menu but there were two of us so I asked for another. She replied that she could get us another but she'd have to print it out. Weird. I said not to worry about it. Then I noticed a little paper taped to the table that said menu and had a QR code under it. That would have been nice to know in the beginning but I guess I should have been more observant. I've just never been to a sit down restaurant where I wasn't given a menu. The next problem we encountered with this place was that they brought my son's food to our table but didn't bring mine out until he was almost done eating his. They did apologize though. The next thing is that when they brought my curry and rice, they didn't provide me with a serving spoon to spoon the curry over the rice and to spoon the rice onto my plate. When I asked for one I got another puzzled expression. They brought me one of those Asian soup spoon things so I don't think they ever provide people with a serving spoon. That's just weird to me. Also, they don't provide any napkins for customers. I could have asked for some but I figured it would take another 5 minutes and by then I was almost done so I decided it wasn't worth it. To me, good service is just as important as good food so that's why I gave this place...
