Lenexa Farmers Market — Attraction in Lenexa

The farmers market there had always been pretty darn good. Bought a ton of corn last year that was awesome and was able to freeze enough to last us for the year. Went back this year and bought corn from an older guy out of the back of his truck and it was a little expensive so we only got a dozen. Was excited about having fresh corn for supper tonight , same day that we bought it. However when we got home and started taking it out of the bag my husband who grew up on a farm recognized some corn rust on the husks . This is a fungal disease for corn. The corn is severely dried out, and heavily dimpled. It is generally not recommended to eat corn that displays corn rust on the husks. My husband referred to this as cow corn We assumed the sellers would be monitored when they are selling food products and produce to Lenexa residents. If you bought corn from this one guy, caveat emptor. Those orangey spots and smears are corn rust. You can look it up. We hope everybody else had a better shopping experience and a higher quality of produce than what we got. If you buy corn, ask the guy to peel them for you before you buy them. It drives me crazy that a place this wonderful is so hard to find. I have been there 3 or 4 times and still have never parked in the same place twice. There is construction in the area & it’s impossible to follow the directions & I finally parked at the first place I could find & then started walking directions. Finally just asked a family if I was anywhere near or how should I go to get there. Thankfully they told me exactly what I needed to know. A very good farmers market with all of the essentials. I personally enjoy the good live music as I shop. Don't expect Overland Park size though.
