I love Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park! This has been of my go-to parks for as along as I can remember and love that they continue to update it. The park itself is pretty simple but has quite a bit of history (which you can actually read about on a sign near one of the highest parts of the park. It is really cool to know how long this area has been active and what it started out as.
The park is great for everyone in the family and that isn't even considering all of the events that are hosted in this park throughout the year (chili cook-off, Christmas lights, etc.). But there are numerous paths to walk/run on, updated playgrounds, shelters, the Legler Barn Historical Museum, a railroad caboose, picnic areas, soccer fields, volleyball court, a three-acre lake that you can use a stone path to cross half of, a gazebo, community garden, newly renovated skate park, tennis courts, basketball court, and more! There was a public pool but it is currently under construction.
It is in such a great location and during the winter, you can walk next door to the Foundry Church's coffee shop. Overall, I have always enjoyed Sar-Ko-Par and feel like it continues to get improvements almost every year. I am glad money gets put into it and the family's legacy gets to continue each...

The swimming pool has slides and diving boards wading areas and the park's Roses pond has fishing. Sar-Ko-Par also has paved walking trails, multiple picnic shelters, playgrounds, a skate park, and a sand volleyball court. It usually hosts the Lenexa BBQ battle, the Spinach Festival, and wonderful Christmas light displays each year.
Across Lackman road is Bois D'Arc park with many pickleball courts and a playground. On the North or 87th street side you encounter the start of a miles long green belt walking & running paved trail that can take you to Blackfish parkway along Mill Creek, or loop you back South to end at Ad Astra pool. (Use the crosswalk at Acuff lane, walk East down 87th to the stairs on your left to start the creekside trail.)
The only thing that would make this whole area even better would be some splash pads...
Read moreWent out here with our two dogs in an attempt to tire them out this morning. Not a ton of people out on a Sunday in the am, which was okay by us as it kept the dogs from getting too sidetracked. The winding paths from the skate park to the grilling areas and down towards the lake were clear for the most part. There was some construction going on by one of the cookouts that blocked off a path, but we just skirted around it. Both dogs thought they were Olynpic swimmers when we got to the island with the metal serpent on it, though that probably had more to do with getting the duck that was hanging out on the rock path leading to it. By ten when we were starting to leave, the park was beginning to fill up more. The dogs loved it though, so we'll...
