Unfriendly to smokers. Not just the fair but Greenbrier County. Totally non smoking, no motels available for smokers. The smoking areas are located at the edge of the fair grounds, quite a ways from everything. Only one is in an easily accessable place. At one there was at least 30 people, one bench that seats 2 people, a sign for smoking area, and a butt can. No shelter, no shade.
We are not second class citizens because we smoke, but we are sure treated that way. We are not suppose to smoke but yet they have been selling alcohol for years at the concerts and this year have set up "The WV State Fair Beer and Wine Garden" in the middle of the fair grounds. So drinking alcohol is acceptable but smoking is not. Maybe it is because so many of the people that run this are appently drinkers and they can make more money selling alcohol. Doesn't seem right.
If you are a smoker, stand up for you rights.
There are also many rude people here. Try sitting at a picnic table, as a couple, it won't be long before you are joined by someone. They just sit down without even asking, doesn't matter if someone else was sitting there. And to top it off they aren't young people, they are older and should know better. I was taught some manners growing up, appently these people were not.
My thinking is they are not from WV, we have better manners than that.
No pets allowed, but you see them on the grounds. Why?
Hope you enjoy your visit here. Needs new staff and some very different changes.
Be sure to give them your money but let them tell you how to enjoy your time. Let them tell you where to smoke so they can make your day unenjoyable but let the beer and wine drinkers enjoy their alcohol. Just does not seem right.
They say they are doing this for people's health. I don't see any place selling fresh fruits and vegatables. Everything is full of fat, salt, and sugar. This is as bad, if not worse,...
Read moreThe State of West Virginia has been a fun summer event for the past 5 years I've been at it. I enjoy the random performers who walk around the fairground. These could be people such as a one man band, unicyclist, or a puppet driving a toy automobile. I really enjoyed the beer garden, and I love a lot of the food there. I understand that you have to wait in big lines sometimes and the food is pricy, but that's the fair for you and the vendors can't help inflation when they gotta make a profit to stay in business. I was impressed that this year's concert series featured the band Seether. Or course I went and seen them, and the show was mindblowing. Hopefully they can have more bands like Seether for next year's lineup and so on. I would like to say that the atmosphere is always welcoming, but that's not always the case. When a lot of people go to the fair, you have humble folk and then there are people who have no manners or regard for others. These kinds of people either have an attitude with the people serving their food, or they act like kids basically when they get a few drinks in them. Of course that's something you see on the busy days of the fair, especially when it's nighttime. Sometimes there might be a rude person working at the security gates, which goes against the goal of the fair being fun and welcoming just a little bit, especially when it's the State Fair of West Virginia. Other than those elements, this fair is a fun and welcoming event to go to. The big ferris wheel gives you a sight to see any time of the day, rain or shine. Other things I enjoy about the fair is that they host animal shows, agriculture exhibits, local arts, crafts, and even host local businesses. Overall, I believe this fair has many fun things to enjoy, at the same time doing a great job of representing the State of...
Read moreFor those staying in town it's probably a blast, but we drove over 2 hours to go to the WV state fair, and outside of the normal congestion & paying $10 dollars for parking, you've got an admission price at the main entrance at $15 per person. There was 3 of us, so with parking thats $55 before you've even made it into the fair. If you are a carnival lover who has the money to spend.. you'll probably love it. Or, if the rides aren't your thing but you enjoy agriculture & livestock, live music, shows, live performers, etc you will have a blast. The food & drinks they're are ridiculously expensive as one can guess, but there's nothing that compares to carnival deep fried deliciousness. My family opted out of the wristband pass, as the selection of rides just wasn't worth it for us, but we did buy a ticket card for $55 + a fee and was able to ride 3 rides together.. one of which ( mediocre bucket spinner ride ) the operator seemed to have saw me freaking and purposely made our bucket seat spin 10x more and 10x harder than all the others around us. At one point I heard a man say " don't get dizzy now" and I swear it was the guy operating the ride. I may be wrong and maybe it was coincidence, but it felt off and intentional. Needless to say we were sick after all that and in addition to the heat & humidity and a long ride back home, we were ready to go. Was gonna grab a famous cinnamon roll but couldn't take anymore. Needed my cars AC 😂 probably won't go next year but I heard T-Pain concert was lit and I'm sure the night time atmosphere is more fun and...
