The Name Says It All: Best quality. Best service. Locally made and owned by a family business right here in West Columbia, South Carolina. This store is different from every other store selling mattresses because they actually make the mattresses they sell. Each person I dealt with was friendly, low-pressure, and didn't try to up-sell me.

A mattress is generally something you and your children or other loved ones will have close contact with for almost a third of every day for ten or more years, and can have a significant effect on your health and well-being. Quality matters.

Bottom line: unless the only thing you care about is getting any mattress at the lowest possible price, buy your mattresses here.

Because this is is a locally-owned business that makes the mattresses themselves, they can tell you what is in their mattresses and may be one of the few companies where you can get something WITHOUT memory foam or latex if you don't want those things. They do make things with those products as well if you do want them. They make an effort to provide non-toxic mattresses that are third-party certified.

They actually can customize your mattress to some degree, as far as firmness etc goes, and if after a trial time of sleeping on it, you aren't satisfied, they can adjust it, because 1) they made it and their factory is right here, and 2) they care about their customers even after the deal is done. And with all that, although they won't be the cheapest possible option you can find, their prices were still reasonable and within the range of other stores.

Tl;dr:

When I looked up local mattress stores, there were quite a few in the area that were basically the same thing - a chain store selling mattresses made by other companies (often in other countries), and the only knowledge these stores have about the products they sell are what those companies put in their marketing material.

When I did research, I was surprised to find that most mattresses, including crib mattresses (!!), have been found to off-gas toxic chemicals. Considering the time we spend on mattresses, you should look at the research (as opposed to some company's marketing on social media, TV, or internet) regarding chemicals in mattresses. You might also be interested in reading about "refurbished mattresses," something I only recently heard of, which I found gross and shocking.

What I wanted was the least toxic mattress, made in the US and sold by a local business. I didn't think I would be able to find that.

Memory foam is now even in many brand's traditional spring mattresses, and I definitely didn't want memory foam. Latex is usually suggested as a healthy and eco-minded alternative, but I'm allergic to latex and tend to get hot easily so that's not a good option for me, and latex is often very expensive.

My initial internet searches of local mattress stores didn't even bring up Best Mattress, a local manufacturer very close to my location. Internet searches for mattresses without memory foam or toxic chemicals repeatedly brought up companies selling exactly what I didn't want or the main alternative, latex mattresses. When I found out about Best Mattress, I couldn't believe how lucky we are to have a business like this right here in Columbia! I will definitely spread the word so that we can keep local...

I have only ever written 4 reviews, but having been a customer of Best Mattress for over 35 years for mattresses and upholstering, it’s time I wrote one for them. Because they manufacture their own products, they have been able able and more than willing to craft our beds to suit us and our needs for many years. They have delivered as far as Edisto Beach for us, and everyone, from the owners to the guys who make the deliveries, takes pride in their work and their business. Best Mattress is a four generation family business almost one hundred years old. You will know why they are still in business after you visit and experience their products and service. Michael Joye (manager) was so patient (it took us two days to decide) and knowledgeable, answering every question we had.
