Ernie was extremely knowledgeable and personable. Our family of 4 went on the tour. The youngest (8) wasn’t that into it, but the rest of us really enjoyed seeing such a unique part of the country and how important these wonderful animals are to this community. The homes and barns on these properties are masterpieces. Ernie took us through the rolling hills of Lexington to see tons of horse farms. This is a driving tour and the farms are private, so don’t expect to go onto the properties, with a couple exceptions. (Don Alberto & one other one, name escapes me)
We also stopped at Keeneland and he was able to answer every question we threw at him about horses and races and the track and everything else. You do get to go in and tour the track. He also takes you to the stables and allows you to pet the horses.
The only complaint I have is the van had issues with its seatbelts. I swear there were some seats that had parts of the seatbelt missing. You would pull the shoulder belt down and go to click it, and it wasn’t there. So you look down and try to find it, and then you feel around for it. You think you found it, but it’s another belt. So you think you are losing your mind and you get down on your knees and start looking for the buckle, and you don’t find the buckle where it should be. Instead it’s on the same side as the shoulder belt, and it’s wrapped around something. And you unwrap it and you think you can use it to connect to the other belt you found and use it across your lap and ignore the shoulder belt, but you connect it and it droops down by your knees because the buckle is down under the edge of the seat instead of where a buckle should be. So yeah, maybe a some seatbelt stuff could be looked at. Other than that, we really enjoyed...
Read moreMy husband and I brought 3 of our grandchildren on a horse farm tour with this company in April of 2011. The driver who owns the company was our driver, an older woman and she is totally rude to SOME of her guests and it was us that day evidently. She asked where we were from and WE told her Michigan ( called us damn Yankees )and right from there she was not very nice, in fact, my husband says she was downright nasty to us, except she did take us to a farm that my 6-year old granddaughter could have her photo taken with a newborn colt. After telling all on the tour to turn our cell phones off and made a big deal out of it, but, when her's rang she answered it immediately, stopping in the road, mind you, then pulled off in a driveway to complete her conversation. Our tour was supposed to be 3 hours, we got 2 hours and some minutes and she drove like a bat out of hell to get us back to the hotel where we were picked up. We're going to be in Lexington this April, too, and we are going to take our German exchange student and another of our grandkids for a tour, BUT, IT WON'T BE WITH...
Read moreMy husband and I went on the Horse Farm Tour last week and thoroughly enjoyed it! Ernie Flynn was our tour director and as a former jockey and trainer he was a wealth of knowledge. He kept the tour fun and interesting and made sure we saw all the important sites. I would recommend this tour to visitors to Lexington! I would have given this tour company 5 stars except for the reception I received when I called to book the tour. The woman who took my call immediately said "We don't take Canadians on our tours." I was stunned and mumbled "And why is that?" She replied that "Canadians don't behave themselves!" Once I realized she was joking I was able to book the tour. My husband was not impressed and said if he had called and she said that to him, he would have hung up and called another company. Probably not the best way to handle an inquiry for a tour. Might want to make a note of that for future calls...
