I recently brought in my laptop to canton computers to have a virus removed. Fred informed me that they would take a look at it and if it needed to be fixed the fee would be 79. He later told me that there could be additional charges perhaps the operating system may need to be reloaded, etc. The next day I received a call from them, he proceeds to tell me that my hard drive was failing during diagnosis testing and it could last 5 minutes after I leave or 5 years. I thought that was a wide range... He said they had a comparable hard drive and with that total would be 292.00. I told him I couldn't afford that during Christmas time, he then starting reducing the priced based on a smaller hard drive, but then said if I wanted to save anything off the old one it would range from 30 and up depending on the size of the media needing to be removed. I asked him could he just remove the virus not fix the hard drive, place antivirus and I would take my chances on the hard drive, he said he could remove virus but could only sell me the virus protection and not put it on the computer because of the condition of the hard drive. I said forget it all together I'll just pick it up. Needless to say they charged me 40.00 for nothing, I took my computer to the geek squad bought a 2 year service plan for 3 computers which included antivirus, cleanup and removal of all virus or spy wear for under 300. (with complete support/service) MY COMPUTER'S HARD DRIVE PASSED DIAGNOSTICS AT BEST BUY'S GEEK SQUAD! Do not take your computer to this place you will regret it! They tried to rip me off and at a great time CHRISTMAS!...
Read moreOn January 9, 2024, I brought my custom build PC in for service in regards to a boot failure, as the problem was well above my knowledge. I was quoted one business week(1/16) for the work to be done and would be contacted if there were any complications. On 1/16, I was contacted and informed that my PC was ready for pick-up and that the work had been completed.
Upon arriving, the employee and I went over notes from the tech that worked on my PC and discussed a thermal issue that was found and resolved at no extra cost. They also mentioned that one of the RAM sticks(in slot B2) had the cover for the RGB come loose, though it would not effect performance. There were additional notes within the invoice mentioning issues with SSD cables not being seated properly, and that had been fixed.
The service notes do mention the boot failure that occurred on their test bench when I brought the PC in. The only other mention of boot issues is that on 11/13 that they had not had any boot issues(this day does mention the thermal and SSD cable issues), and on 11/16 that the tech "restarted the system a large multitude of times, have not encountered any boot issues."
11 days after receiving my PC back, I am once again suffering the same BSOD errors and boot failures.
Attached are pictures of the RAM in slot B2 and my monitor showing the boot error.
Ultimately I am unimpressed with Canton Computers' inability to resolve the issue my PC was having. Despite this, I do appreciate the politeness of the employees I worked with trying to resolve...
Read moreI know just enough about building and upgrading systems to be dangerous, but when something breaks, I'm almost entirely useless. Thus, I walked in with my behemoth of a computer thinking I had a motherboard issue after installing a new video card. Techs determined my brand new video card was DOA, but after some tinkering they also discovered that my CPU cooling pump had bit the dust as well. The techs were upfront and honest, recommending a significantly cheaper air-cooling solution for my CPU rather than another liquid cooling system.
They executed all these repairs, tied back a few of my loose cables, re-mounted my SSDs into a single bracket, and did a thorough dust-out of my system. They left me out the door with a reasonable price for these services, along with a detailed write-up of what they'd done and other non-critical findings I might want to direct my attention to in the future. The entire time, everybody I dealt with was incredibly courteous and deeply knowledgeable, and I walked out the door with a system that almost ran like brand new.
It's hard to find reliable computer repair services nowadays, but the techs at Canton Computers hit the mark on every level, they provide fairly swift services, they're very communicative as to what they've found, they're honest in their recommendations, and their service prices are reasonable. I would bring my system to them again anytime.
(And the new air cooling system has LEDs on it which makes the tiny child in my heart...
