Refresh Computers — Attraction in Longwood

These folks are top notch! My old laptop had several issues. First the battery would no longer hold a charge. In addition none of the drivers had been updated in 5 yrs. The computer would not recognize my internet, so I could not even access the internet to download new drivers. And finally it was slow as sludge loading.

I initially took the computer to a place near me. He was unable to get the computer to access the Internet. He replaced the battery and suggested I upgrade the hard drive from the mechanical/disk drive it had.

Since I still could not access the Internet a friend recommended Refresh Computers. I took the laptop there and quite frankly they saved the computer and quite possibly me from harm. The first place place had installed the wrong battery and had simply laid it on top of both the copper coils and the cooling unit. This explained the new ‘wobble’ in the computer when laid on a surface. Before they opened it up and discovered this Jonathan got it onto the Internet and started updating all the drivers etc. Since that would take a couple hours I left it overnight. Before I left I asked them to check into the wobble and we discussed upgrading the hard drive. He took me thru the options and as they did not have exactly what I wanted he showed me what I needed to get on Amazon. (They have a wide selection of solid state and hard drive interfaces but not the specific one I needed). The next morning when I went in, they showed me the battery issue with pictures of what they had found on opening the laptop. (I was able to use the pictures to get a refund from the other repair place). He also showed me that the drivers had all updated, and I could now access the Internet. I went ahead and ordered the battery from them and the hard drive from Amazon, and when both were in they put it all together and the laptop runs like a dream. So much faster!! Tho older it has a touch screen and quite a few other features so I’m happy to have it working. I can’t thank them enough for their professionalism and customer service attitude. I originally came in to refresh my computer, which was operating slowly. From the very beginning, Daniel was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and patient. He was able to explain why my computer was operating slowly and gave me a solution to fix it. After further discussion with him, I realized I did not want to invest that monetary sum toward a repair if my computer would not support the software I use in another year.

As he showed me multiple options for purchase as a replacement, Daniel took into consideration all the aspects I wanted in a newer model. Daniel dedicated a lot of time with me, determining my needs and preferences In order to give me great options. As we narrowed it down, he went into the back to find what ultimately turned out to be a perfect choice for me.

The computer needed preparation before I could purchase it. Daniel had it prepared and called me immediately when it was ready. I purposely waited until he was back at work so that I could have him complete the transition of information from my current computer to the new one. He did exactly that, explaining the new computer aspects and making sure I could access all my old information.

Overall, Daniel spent hours on my behalf to ensure that he knew what I needed in order to recommend the perfect computer for me. As I am not tech savvy, he was extremely patient in explaining or re-explaining concepts that I’m sure were very basic to him. He made me feel comfortable to ask questions when I didn’t understand and I never felt like he was trying to upsell me for a level of computer beyond my needs. I promise to update this review if Refresh Computers can do a simple battery replacement on a laptop computer. I had called them a week ago to ask whether they replaced laptop batteries. They said they did. They charged me for the battery which they would order and someone would call me when the battery came in. I brought the computer in Thursday morning and was even asked if I wanted to wait for the installation. I told the technician to take his time and I would pick it up later. Never receiving a call that day, I called them Friday to learn that they didn’t have the correct battery. Since I need the computer for work (I am a physician and it has my EMR software on it) I was told that they would get the proper battery the next day (Saturday) and to call in the morning. Well....I just learned that the replacement battery they received today was also the wrong battery. They are finding a new supplier and the earliest the battery will be available will be Thursday. So now they will have to reassemble my laptop so it will run only when plugged in. I will not be able to take it from room to room. And I will bring it back on Thursday to see if they finally got the correct battery. Until then....1 star, and that is being generous. EDIT..... I promised an edit to this review once the repair was completed. Refresh Computers "rush" ordered the battery which arrived yesterday. I returned to drop off the computer and I picked it up this morning. It appears to run just fine with the new battery. The staff was apologetic about the runaround and the delays. It took 4 trips to finally have the repair done. I hope that this doesn't happen to any other customers just needing an internal...
