This Park is founded and dedicated to my amazing boyfriend's (Christopher Malloy) grandfather Ken Malloy. In 1937 on a foggy morning Ken was driving down the road and bumped into some cows that were quietly grazing on the side. So he pulled over to make sure everything was ok.This Is when he first set eyes on the beautiful land and fell in love. Eventually the land became Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park. Since that day Ken was a man that dedicated his life to care for the trees, bushes ,flowers, and wild life. He started the camp for the kids. So the kids had a beautiful place to spend their days. Ken use to go down to the park everyday for hours and hours. He would also water the trees by hand. The park was his life, dreams, and passion. Until he passed away January 1, 1991 at the young age of 79. My boyfriend's grandmother ( Mary Ellen Malloy) said that Ken told to her one day that the park was his baby.... Ken Malloy was a quiet hero in this neighborhood. Even on his deathbed when he could no longer speak but only through he's eyes the Audubon Society promised him that they will continue his work that he begun at Harbor Park/White Point and they did they kept that promise. And now in 2020 Ken Malloy's spirit and memories live on in the park that made him so happy to be alive. He found his passion and he lived his dreams. Ken was a Great, Loving, Hard Working, Selfless Husband ,Father, and Grandfather on top of being a dedicated Longshoreman ,Park Ranger ,Conservationist, Hiker, Hunter, Fisherman and Grocery Store Owner. Ken is dearly missed by many including his grandson that got to enjoy a short time with him but says "he remembers running around in the house that Ken built with his own two hands and playing in the backyard that Ken also built. As a kid it seemed like grandpa's backyard was a forest it was the coolest place to run play and jump. I remember him sitting in the back watching me play. I can even remember the smell of my grandpa. He was always willing to hang out with me and he never was a crabby man he was always a happy man That I can recall." I just wanted to give everyone that visits the park a little story of a man I wish I could of met but never got a chance to a little bit of the wonderful life he lived and the great things he did for his neighborhood. So when your going to the park or at the park or leaving the park just remember why that park is there today and remember who was the man that loved the park that you to get to enjoy and pass on the story with someone else to always remember this beautiful mans name..........
Read moreThis is a marshland park, with small catch & release fishing docks tucked away, up & down the park this is a park with lots of waterfowl, you will not get close to the water at this park. It is built this way because its a Marshland preserve! Swampy, low flow water behind the tall bull rushes, large boulders and full size marsh plants keeping the waters edge as natural as possible. You won't dip your finger in or look for little minnows that the ducks are eating, because its not that kind of water, think of it as a river that would be hard to maneuver through the bushes and tall reeds to get to so you kinda see it from afar. A beautiful park with nice winding trails on lots of landscaped land. Nice play areas, wide open spaces , parking in lot or on street. Geese, large ducks,...
Read moreThe local government has done a good job covering up the fact that oil refineries all along the Los Angeles river used water directly from the river in the old days and dumped it right back in with whatever chemical pollutants that mixed with it. In fact the entire lake was drained and “cement capped” to keep water run off from coming into contact with the deadly soil and further polluting our ocean and killing marine life Apparently the oil industry does not have to clean up its mess like non billion dollar business and industries are held accountable to do. Must be nice to have enough money to ignore laws which govern the rest of us I wonder how much you have to pay politicians to be able to get...
