Monika our leasing agent was extremely helpful and very professional. She was very knowledgeable and kind and found us the perfect top floor unit. My wife and I were really pleased with the overall experience provided. As soon as we were ready to put an application on the unit, we had a few hiccups. Both my wife and I locked down all 3 of our credit reports. While I unlocked mines about 1 month in advance, my wife waited until the last minute and caused her application to take about 1 week longer since there seemed to be a lag between the time you unlock your credit. We were going to Europe for 2 weeks and were worried that things would not get sorted out, but Monika helped get us approved and followed up with us frequently to update us on the status and kept us organized and on track so that we could move in when we got back to LA. Upon moving in there were a few things we needed like a new water filter and some other small incidentals, which Monika called maintenance and got everything sorted out right away.
I'm always on the lookout for new places to live. I moved from Hong Kong (home to the land of tiny and overpriced apartments, most of which are individually owned) to LA in 2018. While LA probably isn't less expensive than Hong Kong, I did find the apartment hunting process very different. In Hong Kong its virtually impossible to find a place without a broker, which means you'd have to pay 1 months brokers fee + 1st months rent + 1mo security deposit = your out 3 months rent from the start. LA interestingly has so many rentals available that they almost never use brokers, and you can walk up directly to the building and find a permanent leasing office located inside ready to give you a tour anytime. And most new buildings in LA offer concessions like 8 weeks free and bonus for tenant referrals, which is exactly what happened to me.
When I first moved to LA in 2018, I've learned the hard way of LA living, hastily moving into an apartment without doing a ton of research or due diligence on the neighborhood or surrounding areas, so it was key when I found Llewelyn through tenants whom I met from a friends wedding. I met a couple of guys who lived at Llewelyn, so was able to ask them tons of questions before seriously considering the place. Llewelyn is the first in a handful of new multifamily residential developments planned along the perimeter of Los Angeles State Historic Park. Been watching Llewelyn since it was new construction and recently moved in to Llewelyn and love the apartment! Great amenities and love the location. The first time I ever heard of the area, was when I went to a Zedd concert in the park. So the first thing I thought was that there's got to be a noisy place. Interesting its actually much quieter than I expected and other areas I lived in like in Hollywood, The Arts District and Echo Park. While the building sits due east of the commercial core of Chinatown, as well as L.A. State Historic Park and a Metro rail station, the property's immediate surroundings are...
Read moreI had a good experience with Llewellyn for the most part up until the move out process. First we had issues with the maintenance team being rude specifically Carlos when it came to checking out the apartment for inspection even with our efforts of cleaning the apartment to the best of our ability (we took super good care of the unit and always kept it clean throughout our two year tenancy). We were told to clean the apartment everyday before inspection and even clean dust that naturally accumulates (basically no traces of hair or we will be charged) . Once pre inspection came along they were one hour late and we had to contact the leasing department for them to come and once they did that's when they were rude with the whole inspection process so much so we needed to speak with management to find a solution. We then cleaned the apartment again to make sure there were no issues and we were as transparent as possible to make the inspection easy. Once again no one showed up to inspection after 30+ minutes we headed downstairs to confront management about inspection since the first time they didn't seem to care about wasting our time since theirs in apparently more important. We were getting mixed messages from management explaining that we would need to pay for paint, cleaning fees and other charges even after going back and forth with them. We were only hit with cleanings fee but it took us so much time to get that point even with the paint on walls having with no damage. Once we moved out we have been speaking with Rebecca about our security deposit and it has been a challenge once again. We received our security deposit after 21 days per state law which when that happens we should receive the full deposit back but that was not the case and we have dealt with deductions that should not be there. We currently are very frustrated with Llewellyn once a place where we felt at home and welcomed has now been a place where they are picky when it comes to giving back money to tenants and has given us constant issues since the move out process. We have never gave Llewellyn any issues for close to the 2 years that we stayed there and it's a shame that they started to do this. We always paid rent on time and were very good tenants in all aspects within the community. Daniel that works at security is amazing and is the best person there but unfortunately that's the only thing. Rebecca keeps going back and forth in emails providing false information when it comes to returning the security deposit. She states that we don't need to receive the check within the 21 days and when asking her to provide proof to back up that statement she pivots away from it. Hopefully a resolution can be found because it's absolutely a waste of time and overall this move out process is very unprofessional. May this be a warning to any current tenants staying there and to make sure that Llewellyn isn't taking advantage of you please...

I signed a lease to move into the Llewellyn on 06/28/2023, given the weather conditions that week my flight was delayed on the east coast. I shipped my PERSONAL items (10 boxes in total) from NYC to the Llewellyn with the expected arrival date of 06/30/23, however they arrived early on the evening of 06/29/23. I informed Kimberly and she offered to place the items in my unit after I asked if they could be stored in a secure location, but instead they were left in the hallway. Upon my arrival on 06/30/2023 I was informed that two of my boxes were missing. These boxes were filled with my personal items weighing over 40 pounds each costing over $300 each to ship. It has been over a week now and management has made NO significant efforts to even investigate or spread the word regarding my items being STOLEN. I have asked Angel (property manager) several times (our first conversation was on June 30th, 2023) to approve my message in the Alfred app so that all tenants could be informed of what happened to me, and maybe could provide additional information for my police report . Angel told me in a verbal conversation on July 3rd 2023 he would approve it. As of July 8, 2023 my post in Alfred is still pending. At this point there is NO point of approving the post AS my items are long gone by NOW. Angel is more concerned with the image of the Llewellyn than the actual safety and protection of residents and their belongings. I spoke with Edwin (assistant property manager) on July 6th, 2023 regarding a picture taken by overnight security Juan (which I have not seen) and post approval. Edwin informed me he would speak to Angel. Can you imagine moving into a building that offers âdoorman/ securityâ and still having your stuff stolen? I personally feel I was targeted. Management could care less and that is what is scary. I will now be forced to buy a RING as I remain trapped in a lease for 12 months, as they expect you to pay close to $5k to break it. Move-in at your own RISK, but know it is always MONEY OVER SAFETY AT THE LLEWELLYN !!!
