Amazing gentlemen that work at the valet parking. Dwayne and his crew were very friendly, our needs were respected and executed with kindness.
Disregarding minor details (older looking doors at the hallway) beautiful looking hotel inside and out, lovely interior. great location.
hotelroom was clean and spacious.
At arrival we noticed an unpleasant smell at the lobby which reminded of cat-urine. The smell was noticeable all around aswell as our hotelroom. The smell also appeared to be stronger after bedsheets were exchanged (after having to actively ask them to exchange at multiple occassions, which I will go further into at the next points) Small, unsupervised gym WITHOUT towels. There is a note that wishes for guests to reuse their towels, however no towels were available to use ( I guess they want you to bring the towel from your hotelroom?). We did notice once, that there was one nicely folded towel on each equipment, which let us believe, they were prepared for us guests to use. However what happens when another guest, that may come in afterwards, wants to use the same equipment? Leave the towel there so the next can use? Hygiene? On another occasion, we witnessed our beds still unmade after some time outside the hotelroom. We then asked for fresh towels and bottles of water when passing the deskfront on our way to the city, since we were told by that time of the day (approx. 9 pm) no beds could be made until next day. We came back to find the towels and water placed on the bedsidetable ( right infront of the door) instead of placing towels in the bathroom / water in the fridge. Laziness at its finest. At times, used foodtrays and wineglasses were piling up either on the floor or the tables of the hallway even though housekeeping was seen on the hallway frequently. The used items were seen there even up to 24 hours. Staff at the desk / Houskeepingstaff : some were very rude and disrespectful. First incident: After a long day of sightseeing we came back to witness our bed still unmade. We planned to leave the hotel again, we decided we will let the housekeeping lady know and asked her if she could make our bed for us, since we passed her on the hallway. She knotted her head and mumbled something under her breath in spanish. When we got back, the beds were still unmade. We let the lady at the desk know, which her reply was „They dont speak english well, they are quite busy and must have forgot.“ no apology whatsoever. She also added that, we shouldnt have asked the houskeeper to make our bed but rather let the staff from the desk know so they can coordinate them. The next day we asked another staffmember from the desk to comfirm what we were told regarding getting our beds made, which he told us its absolutely fine for us to let the houskeeper know if we need our beds made. With that said, the lady that claimed we shouldnt have let the houskeeper know was dishonest about her statement. Second incident: The same lady in question that gave a untrue statement ( black hair, approx. 30y,) was at the desk on her phone when we were asking her colleague if it was possible to check out an hour later. the colleague wasnt sure of the answer, turned to the lady that stood behind him (she is STILL on her phone). she answered in an non-interested manner by shaking her head, without once acknowleding us at all.
Possible solutions: Invest in roomscents for lobby and hotelroom to add a pleasant olfactory experience for the guests. Offer towels at the gym so hygiene is ensured. Let housekeeping check hallways frequently to ensure rubbish is removed and doesnt pile up leaving hallway messy. Invest in costumerservice courses that include professional communicationskills and etiquette. Information shared by staff should be equal so confusion is minimized.
We shared our concern with a female, marrocan supervisor. She took her time to listen to us and seemed interested in finding a solution that suited...
Read moreThe Luxe is one of the oddest hotels I’ve ever stayed in, especially for a “4 star.”
For one, the fact that the lobby is totally disconnected from the rooms is mildly inconvenient since you have to valet park twice — once to check in, and then again at the “rooms level.” Note: there is only valet parking, no self-parking option. And there was no valet waiting at the top of the rooms level so we had to call to request one even though, having just checked in, you’d think they’d realize “maybe we should send someone up there.”
But ok, hotel layouts can be funky especially when you’re built into a hill. It’s fine.
But then you walk into the room and…the oddness continues. The room we were in — which was a standard — was huge. I’m talking at least twice as big as standard Marriot/Sheraton room. One website I found said the standard rooms were 522sq ft but that feels an underestimate.
I don’t mind a big room except that it’s mostly all empty space. It feels under-furnished (rather than minimalist), like there’s supposed to be more furniture but at some point, they took a bunch of stuff away. You could easily have fit a normal-sized couch in here without remotely cramping the space.
And what makes this so bizarre is that they give you this narrow “work desk” that’s barely 14-15” deep. Again, the room could have easily fit a normal sized desk but nope: you get this heavy, long, narrow desk with one drawer and worst of all: no power access.
Yeah, you read that correctly: there’s no (easy) way to plug into anything. Forget about an integrated power option (the bedside tables at least have those): the only option here is a power outlet located behind the desk and the way the desk is designed, there’s no way to access that outlet without pulling the desk away from the wall. And because the desk is both heavy and for some reason, has a back that goes down to shin level, you either have to blindly try to find the outlet from the top or else pull the desk so far from the wall that you can kneel behind it, plug in, and then push the desk back.
Look: I’ve stayed in dozens of hotels around the world…I’ve never seen a room designed to be so hostile to, you know, plugging in a work device. It’s bizarre.
Meanwhile, the bathroom is strangely narrow and cramped. They give you this massive room with tons of negative space but the bathroom feels claustrophobic by comparison. And yet, the mini-fridge gets its own built-in cubby cabinet in the wall!
Lest I forget to mention: the bathroom had no cups/glasses in it. The only cups in the entire room were two paper cups next to the coffee machine. I had to call down to the front desk to ask for glasses. I don’t know if this was a housekeeping oversight or some weird energy saving measure but you’d think there’d be more than two paper cups in a 4 star hotel. It also took a rather long time for someone to arrive with the glasses despite it being 9:30 in the evening (we checked in after dinner) which makes we wonder if they’re under-staffed.
There’s a standard flat screen TV with remote which is fine but for a room of this size, it should be bigger to compensate for the distance from the bed.
There’s one, womb-style chair, plus the desk chair. Really feel like the space could use a couch or loveseat.
On the plus side, you do get a well-sized, six drawer dresser so there’s plenty of space for clothes. And as mentioned, at least the bedside tables have integrated power...
Read moreWe arrived at this hotel exhausted after a long flight from Hong Kong. When the taxi pulled up, three bellman sat at the front desk looking at us disinterested as we walked in with our baggage.||We were given a room in the 'second building' which we were told was 50 metres away albeit up a steep hill. I suggest the check in clerk - who could not have been more disinterested in anything we asked - be given a lesson in measuring distance. The bottom line is that the second building is fine if you have a car and don't mind staying in a motel. If you don't have a car, it sucks as you rely on a so called shuttle service with no food or refreshments in that building. We were shuttled up by one of the bellman but in true fashion, dropped at the door, given directions to the room and more or less told to take care of our own luggage.||We had booked a Junior Suite which is apparently what we were given. The website states most rooms have private patios - this one did not and given that it overlooked the motorway, I would guess it is some time since the windows were opened. It certainly did not smell fresh. When we called the front desk to complain, the person we spoke to told us that as far as he was concerned we had received what we had reserved. He had a distinct attitude issue and was not going to help. He was adamant that we could not move room that night and perhaps (but probably not) could be changed in the morning. The call did not end well.||I called back about 20 minutes later and this time he agreed to move us to a lower rate room which he assured me had a balcony. What he forgot to mention was the the balcony it had looked over a ravine full of what appeared to be discarded balcony furniture and that there were workmen digging a drain or something which involved banging before 7am.||In short the 'new' room had no tooth glasses in the bathroom (two paper cups at the coffee machine - take your choice what you use them for), no robes and tired furniture. There were two beds - I found them ok. My wife did not. The stopper in the bathroom sink was broken and you could not fill the sink with water.||This morning we found alternative accommodation and moved out. The biggest surprise this morning is that the clerk on the front desk - who to her credit, took our comments (and my anger) with dignity as apparently there were no members of management on site - then offered us a refurbished room. Go figure as less than 12 hours earlier we were told unequivocally that a room change was probably not possible.||Some positives - the food in the bar last night and at breakfast this morning was more than edible. It was good.||The website shows a gleaming property with lots of talk of private patios and other amenities in the room. It is not! It is tired, run down and in need of attention. The hotel is being refurbished but there is no mention of this on the website.||It may get better but for the moment avoid it...
