If you visit San Pedro then the pinnacle of the beauty of San Pedro is at point Furman lighthouse. It is such a beautiful area with a theater and overlook spots dotted throughout the cliffside. You can even go to the Korean friendship bell up the hill if you want to visit a tourist attraction that's just a few hundred feet away. If you keep going north after point Furman Park then you will eventually go to the road again through the nice houses in the neighborhood. It doesn't go very far unless you start going uphill so make sure you have a powerful enough scooter or electric bike if you go past Point Fermin towards the north. I believe there is a dirt trail that can cut through to get to the next beach sidewalk but I haven't had the time to explore the trails at the end of the road from the Point Fermin lighthouse...
Read moreI love this place! The lighthouse was built in 1874 and designed by Paul J. Pelz, who also designed Point Fermin's sister stations, East Brother Island Light in Richmond, California, Mare Island Light, in Carquinez Strait, California (demolished in the 1930s), Point Hueneme Light in California (replaced in 1940), Hereford Inlet Light in North Wildwood, New Jersey, and Point Adams Light in Washington State (burned down by the Lighthouse Service in 1912), all in essentially the same style. The original fourth order Fresnel lens was removed in 1942 and a wood replica lantern was installed in 1974. The lighthouse was saved from demolition in 1972 and refurbished in 1974, and a new lantern room and gallery were built by local preservationists. In 1972, the light was added to the National Register of...
Read moreBeautiful cliff side park with historic landmark lighthouse. The lighthouse building with gift shop is open for limited hours and well worth checking out! The volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and so very nice. Chatting with them was one of the highlights of our visit. Oceanview tables line the pathway nearest the water and are first come first serve. Bring a rag to wipe off the sand. Plenty of wide open grassy areas with beautiful old growth trees. Lots of people set up picnics in these areas as well. There are cute little ground squirrels everywhere. Dogs on leash are okay and we saw many of them going crazy for the squirrels. Looking forward to coming...
