Title: Beware of Sola Rentals – A Masterclass in Mismanagement, Deception, and Tenant Neglect
I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Sola Rentals (Sola Impact Fund II, LP) has been so deeply traumatizing and outrageous that it would be negligent not to warn others. This company markets itself as a community-forward, affordable housing provider—but my firsthand experience reveals a deeply unethical, predatory, and negligent operation that has left my life in disarray.
Let me walk you through it.
Breach of Warranty of Habitability
Upon moving in, I was met with a unit that had multiple unresolved issues. Major repairs were left incomplete, and attempts to get maintenance or resolution were met with silence or delay. After invoking my legal right under California Civil Code §1942.4 to withhold rent due to these uninhabitable conditions, Sola responded not with repairs—but with retaliation.
Retaliation and Unlawful Eviction
Rather than resolve the documented issues, Sola initiated an eviction—despite knowing I had been in communication and provided documentation of their own lease violations. They served a summons improperly (which I can prove with GPS and surveillance footage), yet pushed forward anyway, resulting in a default judgment while I was hospitalized.
Cruelty to Service Animals
During the court-ordered lockout, my two service animals were left inside the apartment without food, water, or care for over three days. One of them later died as a result of unsafe conditions in the building—an unsecured rooftop door led to a fatal fall. Despite alerting Sola, no one responded or intervened.
Theft and Destruction of Personal Property
Sola’s property managers assured me my belongings would be safely stored at a designated location. Instead, they ransacked the unit. Cameras, original photography from a historic Mexican muralist, collectibles, electronics, and education credentials were stolen—and neighbors witnessed their staff arguing about who would get to take what “for resale at their wives' thrift stores.” I later found what remained of my belongings thrown into a dumpster.
False Police Reports & Harassment
After I began speaking out and trying to hold the company accountable, property manager Blanca Viera filed a false police report and a baseless restraining order against me—while her team was actively covering up the mishandling of my property. Another manager, Erika Beltran, falsely told me my belongings had been “disposed of” when they had not.
Stonewalling, Gaslighting, and Corporate Silence
I sent emails to 164 different company addresses—not one reply. I called repeatedly. Nothing. Eventually, it appears they blocked my email address entirely. Their silence was not incompetence—it was strategic.
Legal and Ethical Violations
Sola Rentals and its affiliates acted outside of the law multiple times:
Violating California tenant retaliation protections
Improper service of process, violating due process
Failure to accommodate my ADA-protected service animals
Grand theft and destruction of property
Filing of false legal documents and misuse of police resources
A Final Word
This wasn’t just about housing. This was about my dignity, my health, my pets, and my future. I lost my home, my property, my education momentum, and peace of mind. I’m still rebuilding. And yet, Sola Rentals continues operating without accountability.
I have filed legal claims, alerted housing authorities, contacted civil rights groups, and submitted complaints to the California Department of Real Estate, the LA Housing Department, the Better Business Bureau, the City Attorney’s office, and more. I will not stop until there is justice.

But lucky enough to be referred to this program and was able to go through the motions that it offers to get housed at the beginning of this year. My apartment was brand-new no one had lived in it new appliances it's perfect. I believe in order for a program like this to work there has to be people that create the back bone of the company ,an employee that cares and truly put others before themselves and that blessing for me is KEITH WILLIAMS . Having Keith assigned to my case was the biggest blessing I've ever received. He truly deserves his flowers and recognition. Such a pure sweet soul. No matter what time I called him, how many emails I sent ,a complaint or what question I asked ,he was there. I even had the audacity to be indecisive about my apartment and he literally found the place that I am currently staying in on his own. Keith went above and beyond every time to make sure I was comfortable and I felt confident in my decision that regarding my place to stay and any other concerns . I'm a client and I felt so comfortable as if I was speaking to a friend over the phone. I didn't feel judged ,I felt safe in speaking to someone that truly seem to care about me and had a sense of urgency to get me everything that I needed , as far as housing and anything else. Keith worked on my case every day to get me situated and there are not enough thank you's in the world because my life truly changed in a positive way once I was housed. I've never felt this level of happiness in my entire life. There needs to be more people like Keith Williams in programs like this especially in the inner city of Los Angeles but possibly in the world .It is so hard to find good genuine people that really compassionate.

Stay as far away from Sola Rentals as you possibly can. This is not a company to be trusted. I’ve known this place for over five years—back when it was just four to six people working there. I’ve seen it grow, and for a long time, I truly loved Sola for everything it did for me and my family. I have countless good memories tied to this place, and I’ll never forget what it once meant to us. But the way things have changed—the way they’ve treated people they once called family—has been heartbreaking.I can never excuse how they treated my mother. She gave everything to this company, and they exploited her in ways that I can’t forgive. She’s moved on and let it go, but me? I haven’t. And it’s not just her—Sola has done wrong by other employees too. People were let go without reason, discarded like they didn’t matter after years of loyalty.Even the CEOs, who were close family friends for over 10 years, completely forgot about us. I tried coming in to speak directly with one of them, just to have a conversation—but he was too busy to even meet with me.This isn’t me looking for attention, and I’m not asking for anything in return. But people deserve to know the truth: Sola Rentals is not what it used to be. This is a place that will smile in your face and backstab you when it’s convenient. These people are not your friends. They are not your family. They will use you—and when you’ve given all you can, they’ll forget your name.To think this was the same place I once fell in love with… it hurts my heart to say any of this.
