I know this park gets a lot of hate, but it really isn't that bad considering the neighborhood that it is in. But actually, it is a lot better now than it was when I was young. The playground has been revamped. In fact, there are two pretty nice playgrounds now with fairly new equipment. The basketball courts are just okay, not great. There are only a couple of goals worth playing on, and they are not on the same court. One of the courts has goals that are clearly two different heights, which is completely unacceptable for trying to play 5 on 5. The bathrooms are usually closed and locked, the water fountain at least works now, although pitifully. The softball field is generally pretty well kept, but the baseball field is terrible.
And of course, there is the issue of the park's inhabitants. At night, I have run into homeless junkies who presumably live there. Although I have no problem with homeless people or addicts per se, at least on that I have run into on more than one occasion there is very hostile and clearly paranoid and otherwise delusional and mentally ill. He often stands on the side of the expressway flying a cardboard sign begging for dope money. The police's clear tolerance of this behavior (there is actually a police traffic station directly across the street) has encouraged the unsafe environment at the park. In addition to this, one only has to sit and observe for an hour at most on any given day to see drug deals and prostitution take place a stone's throw from the police station. I honestly feel like the patron's of the Wyandotte Tavern would be more likely to respond to an emergency taking place across the street at the park than the police who are located right next door.
So in summary, the park gets a bad rap, when the park itself is not that bad. Rather, it is the people at the park who make it an environment which is sometimes unfit for children to play there unsupervised, or should I say, unprotected. This I blame entirely on the inept LMPD, who seem to have no problem stopping me about 1 out of 5 times that I am just walking down the street, but seem entirely incapable or unwilling to put a stop to actual issues that affect...

We made several calls with no success and getting any assistance in correcting the problems what could be worth when you have 50 or 60 people at a park and no...
