Just dropped in yesterday to see what the buzz was about and check some rental services for an event I'm shooting Friday. I spend a good portion of my time shooting in Los Angeles, and frankly, haven't seen a good camera shop here in LBB yet. Even Best Buy only has older cameras and few lenses in stock. So imagine my surprise when I saw the beautiful collection available at Armadillo! They have everything from the excellent Fujifilm X-mount system to the Nikon F-Mount cameras, to Canon's newest RF gear, to a full selection of Sony lenses (including third-party Tamron lenses too!) Was very tempted by the 50 mm f/1.2 GM. What fascinated me was that they have what both filmmakers and photographers need just there in store-- the product selection was certainly done by people who understand the needs of modern creators and professionals. They had ND Filters/step up rings, portable teleprompters like the affordable Parrot (for youtube, broadcasting, etc), Godox flashes like the infamous V860 III or V1, and pretty much every peak design bag/accessory. Need filters? They've got it. Need tripod clamps, lighting systems, a studio? They've got it. Justin and Deb were truly amazing! The work environment appeared very clean and accommodating. While the rental catalog was not extensive yet (they have only been running this business for the last 8 months), I understood that they will continue to expand this in the future. I was ridiculously impressed with the modernity and quality of the products offered here at Armadillo, directly price matched to Adorama, B&H, and pretty much every reputable camera store! Phenomenal service, a friendly attitude, and friendly attitudes. The owners personally took the time to welcome all the visitors and engaged with us authentically. I will certainly be using this store for all my photo and video needs during the time I'm in Lubbock. This is what we need more of in Lubbock to advance the state of creative photography and videography in this city. I am very proud to see that we have such a store here, and strongly encourage everyone else to check it out. I'm sure it's not easy to run such a business (the insane capital required just for keeping up with the most recent bodies and lenses), but I have confidence that we can support this store as a community to help it grow. Phenomenal work!...
Read moreI needed to have three older Nikon lenses checked for functionality; since I no longer have a camera body that is compatible with these particular lenses. The staff at Amarillo Camera were very accommodating, and they were able to test my lenses. Fortunately, these lenses functioned as designed. While in the store, I took some time to examine their Nikon (and Tamron) inventory, and I was amazed at the selection of lenses and camera bodies they have in-stock. Note: they have all the latest Nikon Z lenses and camera bodies, and this is good stuff!
This is by far the best camera store in Lubbock (and the South Plains). Not only is the inventory really great, but the staff were terrific and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It's wonderful to see someone enthusiastic about the equipment they're selling, and it's a much more satisfying experience than what you would find in any big-box (read BestBuy) retailer. If you need (and more importantly "want") the latest camera gear (and who doesn't), then go visit...
Read moreMy husband and I went in here about three months ago and bought a small camera. We knew absolutely nothing about cameras and barely knew how to operate our cell phone camera. We do not take a lot of pictures because we were not raised in this digital era. We always joke that we’re taking funeral pictures because we realized we do not have very many pictures of ourselves. Since I am a small person and I didn’t want a big , heavy camera. They found us a camera and lense and taught us how to use the camera. They are very patient. They have great classes here also. In the meantime, I traded in two lenses for a better lense and that was the ticket. It really made a difference in my confidence. I will have to say that, Lauren, Logan, Lucas, Sasha, and Aiden are very good here. If you need a camera and know a lot about cameras or nothing about cameras, this is your place. Their prices are very comparable to anything that you can find. they are very helpful in walking you through this...
