We had dinner here around 6:00 on 4/18. We were warmly welcomed and told to sit wherever we wanted. Our server was very kind and did a great job taking care of us during our visit. I started with a nice cold beer. The Mutzig was crisp and refreshing. I highly recommend it. The 33 Export was yummy as well. We got a chicken pie and a scotch egg for our appetizers. They were both so good with spices and seasonings that we were not familiar with at all. You just have to try them. Then for our main course, we got the Taste of Africa and the Savannah Seapride. The chicken was beautifully cooked with more fantastic unfamiliar flavors. The rice was delicious with a red sauce that was bold and rich in flavor. My fish was delicious and full of more wonderful flavors, but if you’ve never eaten a whole fish before, please be very careful to avoid the very small bones throughout. The coleslaw was unlike any coleslaw I’ve ever experienced. It had a wonderful, almost fruity flavor. And the plantains were tender and delightful. Then we had Nana’s cake for dessert. It was amazing. If you like banana bread, then you will love this dessert. Soft moist banana cake topped with creamy ice cream and drizzled with chocolate and caramel. Yum! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and had...
Read moreMy husband and I ate dinner here a few weeks after it opened. I was so excited to hear that Lubbock was getting an African restaurant. And the reality did not disappoint! We ordered a spicy beef appetizer which was fantastic. I ordered off the Traditional section of the menu, while my husband ordered a more Western option. His entree was absolutely delicious. Mine was challenging - some of the flavors were very unfamiliar, and it wasn't for me. The owner noticed that I hadn't eaten much, and came up to our table to ask about the food. He was so kind and cool! He said that the Traditional menu is challenging for people who have never tasted African food, and offered a small portion of a different dish free of charge. I was touched by his generosity and understanding - I think he really wants to introduce us Texans to the flavors of his home, but knows it can be intimidating. My husband and I will be coming back and plan to order wings and the grilled fish (and reorder the delightful spicy beef app). Would definitely recommend Vizo's to anyone looking to try something different in a fun, laid back...
Read moreWe went on a Friday for early dinner and the place was not packed, service was fast and staff were pleasant. Our server Paa gave recommendations as it was our first time to try African food. He was very polite and attentive. We started with drinks. The Piña Colada was good. I tried the scotch egg and my friend had a fish pie which were both with bold flavors and in a good way. We ordered two entrees the Taste of Africa with chicken and Fried African delight. My friend and I both loved the chicken and rice in African delight though both dishes were good. Serving was generous as each plate would be good for two. We loved the fried plantains which came as a side; they were ripened just right and cooked well without being too oily. We ordered shawarma for to go but didn’t get to taste it as my son devoured it 😁 The flavors in their food was delightful to the tastebuds and refreshing from the usual food we eat day-to-day. Recommending to friends and will come back again. I am happy we have this restaurant in Lubbock because we need more diversity in our...
