FIRST - lets clear the air about what Savers is: an explicitly for-profit business (doing $1-2 billion in sales a year of straight profit). That's why there's one in every tri town area, and how they are able to do so much advertising. When you donate to this store, some old guy in a 10 bedroom mansion is pocketing the sale price of your items. Some tiny nominal amount of money is going to a charity (for this store, heartsprings), but you'd give 20x more to charity sending heartsprings the contents of your change jar. They REALLY don't want you to realize this, putting up the logo of a charity all over the place and talking about "saving the planet". SECOND - this store isn't that bad. You can find some good deals on second hand items. It's also the only thrift store in the area, besides Goodwill (and our local goodwill is absolutely insane. I once saw a used DELL KEYBOARD there for $35) so if you're a #thriftkid who grew up in this area this is all you got, realistically, unless you want to go to West Hartford or Salvation Army in Vernon. The employees at this Savers also seem to be treated very poorly, and occasionally they'll throw you a bone because of this (I asked for a price on a DSi one time and the guy brought out a $3.99 sticker). I say that because you never see employees here for more than a few weeks, and they listed their store manager position for well over 6 months on indeed. Depending on the day, you could be spending $12.99 on t shirt that says "husband of a badass nurse!", or 1.99 on a $100+ TI-84 calculator. Depends on the day. If there was an actual charitable thrift store with a similar selection in the area, I would never ever come here again. But that day...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLarge for profit thrift store with a range of items from books, kitchenware, dvds, clothing, shoes and more. The prices are fair. All employees I have interacted with have been friendly. The clothing sections are well organized, though you really have to browse thoroughly to find quality fashionable pieces. The reason for my rating is that they do not do returns here. It is exchange only. I find this odd because when I was told by the cashier he said something about cash on premise. Only for a manager to walk by with a box full of cash and then start to count it with a sorting machine. To get an exchange you must have the tags on still. Since Covid-19, the dressing rooms are closed so I end up getting some clothes that don't fit, I can't return and can never find something that's an equal exchange price. This system basically makes you spend more until you buy something that fits. I wish they would be more flexible in light of the pandemic. It might sound silly to moan about $10 but after a few exchanges that $10 can easily turn into $20+ spent. This problem is made worse for those who don't live locally and have to spend time and gas to get there. Another issue I have is when you donate, you are supposed to get a ticket for a 20% discount. The people working the donation area never have given it to me, I have to ask while I'm being rung out at the front. Overall it is not a great place to thrift but it's not the worst thrift store I have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTerrible store. They were running a special sale where if you texted the number you'd get a 25% coupon send to you. I did the exact instructions and it did not work so I asked one of the workers and they were friendly and said i'll ask a manager. A woman comes over and says "Don't worry about it, we will just override it and we will put it in there for you." I finish scanning everything and another woman ( middle aged lighter brown hair in braids) comes over and says hello and was initially friendly and then I mention that 2 workers said they would put the coupon for me. She looks at me and doesn't believe me. I show her on my phone and she tells me I don't know what i'm doing. I show her again and she says i'm wrong etc.
I explained to her that they would override for me. She says "Nope you did it wrong" then she asked one of the workers if they said they'd override it and they said "Yup we told him that" and then she said "Well i'm not doing it because he did it wrong" and then starts yelling at me at this point. I said screw this and I walked out. She continues to say "He didn't do it right" to all the workers and was extremely rude and unprofessional. I wish I caught her name but her behavior is completely unacceptable.
The prices are also quite high and nothing is properly tested. I will never ever go back to this store. Horrible...
