Momo The Builder (Jon Simonin)Momo The Builder (Jon Simonin)
Overview: From the outside it looks nice, from the inside it's as empty as you'll feel after eating the food. I've been here numerous times, and every time it's just as bad. Considering this is one of the last Mexican restaurants that hasn't been shut down in Manchester, maybe it's time this one shuts down and a new era begins. Honestly, go to Baja's instead. If you want a better Mexican experience with quality food, try out Fiesta Mexicana in Vernon. Food: - I typically get a burrito from Mexican restaurants, fajitas, platters, and tried them all at this restaurant. They're all subpar. From burritos that are mostly filled with hard, overcooked (or undercooked) rice with minimal meat, to ingredient choices that ruin the dish, there's not really a positive thing I can say about the food here. It's all consistently bad, at least they're consistent. - Cotija cheese on top of a burrito? Absolutely repulsive. Why on earth would you put that cheese on top of a burrito? - Asked for a simple modification on the recipe (ranchero sauce on the INSIDE of the burrito vs on top), repeated literally 3 times to ensure the order was taken properly and got NO ranchero sauce, at all. - Guac served on dishes is typically not fresh, at all (why is it such an odd color every time?), and partially sways me to just lop it off. - We always get an app, and that is typically Guac with chips. While the guac is made right in front of us which gives bonus points, it's often saturated with lime juice. Like WAY too much lime. At least it's actually fresh though. - The chips are alright, very crunchy though, never served warm. - Has the staff ever tasted the dishes they make? I am genuinely curious. Drinks: - Not much to say here about drinks, the prices are alright, a little bit high by $1 or $2. Not too strong, or too weak on the margs, so the drinks get a pass. Service: - Every single time we have dined here, the restaurant is completely empty except for 1 or maybe 2 other tables. MAX. I have never seen this restaurant busy in all the times I have went. - With this preface, we never had the waitress come back for water refills, never checked on how the food was once, never asked if anything else was needed. - Waitress only did her rounds when serving the food, drinks, and to give us a box/bill. Other: - The interior and exterior of the building is quite pleasing, and has a welcoming feel to is. It's often decorated so the ambiance is well done. Music is a tad too loud depending on where you sit, and especially if the restaurant is empty - that's the only noise in the building.

Updated Review -- 10/18/24 Today, I wanted to give an appreciation to the owner Leo and one of their wait staff for their acts of kindness during dinner there this evening. The food was phenomenal, as always! Leo, the owner, came over to my table and enquired about my dining experience today. I told him that it appears he continues to train his staff well, e.g., when I accidentally dropped my fork on the floor a kind waitress from another table far away promptly ran over to hand me fresh utencils. Little things like these set restaurants apart and are not as common a practice in resturants these day, for which I commend this restaurant's owner and the hardworking staff. We highly recommend this restaurant as it continues to be our top choice for Mexican food in Connecticut, both in terms of food as well as services. --- Prior Review -- October 2023: This is our #1 place for Mexican food in Connecticut! We are foodies, travel all over the world and can benchmark many cuisines. This restaurant has many great Mexican dishes we love. Starting out, the Salsas they serve with their tortilla Chips are phenomenal! We always ask for their red hot sauce (made with special Mexican dried chilies) which is amazingly flavorful as is their traditional red salsa! Their Refried Beans and Spanish Rice is super flavorful! For entrees I typically order one where I can choose three items such as Chimichanga, Burritos, Enchiladas. I like to order these with Chicken filling which is nicely seasoned. My wife loves their Fish Tacos. The service is very good with many good servers, and there is plenty of seating as we’ve never had to wait even on busy weekends. There is also plenty of parking. This is a gem and we want this restaurant to thrive so we can eat great Mexican food whenever we want!

Overall this restaurant is quite good. Many times my very first impression of a Mexican restaurant comes from flavor of their salsa and if they give you unlimited chips and salsa. There have been several times I have been to a Mexican restaurant and their salsa tastes jarred and they charge you if you want more than one basket of chips, the foods normally ends up being average and I do not go back. Luckily Frontera Grill is not one of those places, salsa tastes fresh and the chips are free. For this meal my wife and I got the Philly Rolls, with a side of beans/rice and we also got Carne Asada Y Mas. Both were very flavorful and filling. The Carne Asada Y Mas comes with either a enchilada, chile relleno or burrito so its quite filling. I chose the enchilada to go along with my Carne Asada (which had very good flavor) and it also came with a side of rice and beans. The Philly rolls were surpassingly good, we weren't sure what to expect, but I would order again. The few times I have been here I have not been disappointed. So over all this is a traditional Mexican-American restaurant with fresh ingredients, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Very much recommend if you are in the area and have a craving for good Mexican food.

Edit: Since the owner saw my review and is still not responding to my multiple emails (and doesn’t seem like you care much about what I said) please check your email and contact me back please or I’ll be calling you tomorrow to speak with the owner/management. Not okay that I got sick from your food, and not okay that we were treated so rudely by staff.

I didn’t want to post this, but seeing as how my complaints aren’t being heard.. I have to. I had a terrible experience Thursday (3/13) and I tried emailing the owners multiple times. I’m extremely unhappy with the service (or lack there of), I got sick from my food (overcooked, rubbery shrimp) and was served a virgin Piña Colada when I was asked twice if I wanted alcohol. I said yes and still was served a virgin. My partner’s steak fajitas were overcooked too and so were his shrimp. Most things we didn’t even eat or took home to not waste the money. Our kid’s food came 15-20 minutes before our drinks and food. It should’ve been served at the same time, it wasn’t ordered as an appetizer. The server was inattentive, snarky, rude and on his phone THE WHOLE TIME instead of checking on tables, including ours- where we did have complaints, but opportunity to raise those complaints weren’t given. When we would notice him and go to get his attention he would duck and go hide somewhere where my table couldn’t see. Didn’t check to see how our food was once, and my partner had to get up to go to the bar for his second drink, since our waiter didn’t care. The bartender even said “oh yup I know the waiter you’re talking about” so I’m severely confused as to why a business of your stature would allow a rude and half-assed worker to be employed with you, when your main priority is CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. You are obviously going to have really unpleased customers if you can’t correct that behavior or replace the employee entirely. We will not be returning. Please respond back to my 3 emails to make this right or I will call about this. Absolutely NOT acceptable to someone who was once a waitress and knows the ins & outs of what you should be doing for your...

We LOVE the food, but waitress Melissa was horrible for the second time. She was not attentive at all and ot made our dining experience miserable because of which. First we sat down, she got our drinks and asked if we were ready to order, given it was 4pm so there were only 3 tables sat in the whole place she came quick, we asked to have one more minute to decide.... then she disappeared. We sat there and sat there and she never came back. We finished our chips and salsa, and two of the 3 of us were also out of drink so I asked the chips and salsa girl (who was standing there watching over while our waitress was who knows where) for drinks and chips and salsa, and to find our waitress. We put food order in, then when it came she helped bring it out, so she was standing there as plates were set down on the table, she asked at that point if we needed anything else but we hadn't really had a chance to look over things to realize we needed guacamole and napkins... but she was gone. I finally got tired of waiting for her to walk back by and flagged down the chips and salsa girl again for napkins and guacamole. Then, TWICE during our meal we ran out of drinks, and never during our meal was she back by our table to check on us until our plates were empty, we were done, and had an empty drink glass on the table for the third time. The second time we had no drink at the table and no waitress, I got up to use the restroom and flag down someone, and saw our waitress hiding in the kitchen area on her phone, which got me beyond irritated. I bet she was pretty aggravated about a $3 tip, and called me some choice words.... but if you care more about how your eyelashes look and talking to your bf on your cellphone than taking care of people and DOING YOUR JOB then good lord, go home and let someone who wants to earn some money take care of us, because im a generous tipper when you deserve it, and im leaving this review for the owner to find so that this situation gets remedied and next time I come in, thats what happens!! Find another profession...
