Every time I come to the Mandan Public Library, I’m delighted by something. There is always something new, something improved, something innovative that they have implemented to make the place better. I travel often and go to libraries in new cities and towns all the time to work remotely or to just enjoy a quiet space to write or read, and this library is honestly one of the best public libraries I’ve been too, without a doubt one of the best in North Dakota. You can tell that there are people behind the scenes that care and make thoughtful decisions about how to make this a better public space for people to be in and it shows. It’s really such a lovely space that I enjoy coming to and will be spending more time in, especially since they’ve lengthened their hours since last fall, it’s not much more accessible to and easy to find them open. Always feels clean and safe. I have recently found that they upgraded their furniture on their awesome big open-air patio/deck out front with new tables and chairs that are so nice and comfortable. It’s unfortunately tough to find a nice public space around Bis-Man to sit outside somewhere nice to use your laptop for school or work or writing or whatever, and this one is free! I would definitely come here to do school work as well as they have outlets conveniently located around the patio too. On par with some of the libraries I’ve been to in bigger cities or colleges with big budgets that have nice outdoor spaces which is really impressive. Their bulletin board and website are always advertising cool events. There are little pop-up book sales and it seems they have so many fun offerings like that. The only thing I can think of that’s missing is a self-service station for scanning and printing etc. instead of having to go through the front desk, but the staff are all very nice and helpful so that’s appreciated. Thank you so much for investing in and thoughtfully creating this nice public space to be in and enjoy. It's so important for communities to have places and spaces like this and other libraries in ND should definitely be taking notes!
Update: I also just checked out their Instagram page where you can find events for the community they are putting on each week. So awesome. You guys are doing...
Read moreThis has to be the best small town library I have seen. Good selection of books. Most importantly there are computers available free of charge one hour a day, however time is somewhat available depending on the number of computer users. I was visiting Mandan when I was working on my Masters degree and the free computer access allowed me to keep up with my class. There has always been ample chairs/tables/desks available. There is free WiFi available which helps communication issues. The most impressive aspect is how friendly and helpful the staff is. I would rank the staff as the top library staff I have interacted with...
Read moreWe recently visited for a passport appointment with my son. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The staff member who assisted us was incredibly rude and displayed a poor attitude throughout the process. It was clear that she was not happy in her role, and her unprofessionalism made the appointment uncomfortable. Based on this experience, I will be looking elsewhere for future services. I hope they address the customer service aspect, as it’s crucial to providing a...
