My friends and I just finished a meal at the Rice Bowl and none of us were impressed. I've been a server for a handful of years and I know how it can be. I tend to tip higher and am patient with dining experiences. I don't know if it was just an off night for the staff, but I am EXTREMELY hesitant to go back.
I don't know if our server was having a bad day, but the service was less than optimal. He never checked up on us throughout our meal, never asked about refills when we had empty glasses, and dropped off the check right when we were given our food. We were unable to ask to get the check split since he quickly returned to give us to go boxes then leave immediately.
We decided to ask the front to split our checks when we were done, since we didn't want to bother him. So when we asked, the host scolded us, saying, "Next time you need to ask your server to do that." Before splitting them with clear frustration. I would gladly have asked my server if he had given us a chance to say anything.
The food was mediocre, but my pork was dry and everything was drowning in greasy sauce. My sister's cheesy wontons were also stuffed with onions and barely any cheese. There was no description on what was in the wontons and she hates onions, so that was an interesting surprise.
Like I said, I don't know if this was an off day for the restaurant but we all left feeling gross and unwelcomed. I hope that...
Read moreI normally don’t make reviews. I was a long time rice bowl guy until I accidentally made a china star order. Was in love with the place. I love the location of rice bowl as I live in Mandan. So decided again to try rice bowl several years ago. Anything deep fried was just soaked in oil and I wasn’t impressed. So always order china star since. Fast forward to now 2025. I got a gift card for rice bowl so me and the wife ordered exactly what we get across the river. Mongolian beef, general tso chicken and a seafood melody. We also get cream cheese wontons. Well it was good food but the Mongolian beef did not taste like beef, the general tso chicken was literally the same chicken ya get with any meal covered in Asian zing sauce and the seafood melody has the same sauce as the beef. It all tasted the same. I was so disappointed. Now the wontons. Oil soaked and not nice and perky looking. Looked as if someone flattened them out into pancakes. My takeout orders exceed 100 at most times and all entrees at china star come with rice. I had to order that separately which was not good. Soaked in soy sauce. Also ordered veg lo mein. Actually threw that out as it just had a weird taste. I will no longer go rice bowl and keep supporting a different business that I feel I get way better food. I’m sorry for the rough criticism but the...
Read moreMy entire house got food poisoning after we ordered from there we ordered several items totally $60 and shared each thing and all ended up sick and puking with my kids having explosive diarrhea and owner was extremely rude when called to notify them of the issue.
Edit to add for owner response you were not nice when I called and basically called me a liar when I spoke of our issue you were incredibly rude and if it wasn't for the absolutely rude treatment I wouldn't be here writing a bad review. If you as an owner would have apologized or at least showed care for the situation instead of denying and being rude it would have ended with the phone call to the business but nasty business management needs to be called out and that is what I am doing. I am not the first to be sick from your business as I have seen in your reviews and your poor response to them as well. Bad business that I will not feel bad about calling out. You guys are terrible in how you responded it was rude from the start. This was the first time my family has eaten out in weeks it was a treat for my family after a very tough couple weeks and your business was absolutely wretched in how you treated me on the phone. So no I am not rude you are a bad business and looking at your response to other negative reviews only further...
