An absolutely passionately run zoo with people who put tireless effort and care into each creature. Just hearing what they do to keep some of their insects healthy and happy is just as fascinating as learning about the creatures themselves. If you're a bug lover, this place was meant for you. If you're a bug phobe this place has more potential than anywhere to help you overcome it. Plus they have the coolest gift shop of anywhere, as the person who runs the zoo is one of the best tarantula breeders around. Their hours currently are 1pm-6pm but I highly encourage getting a...

We have visited several times with our grandkids. They have loved it each time. It is in a unique and fascinating old dairy barn. The displays are very well done and you can get up close. The guides have always been awesome! They have interacted with the kids and really explain the insect world. They respect the insects and are very knowledgable. We all learn a lot every time we go. The flower gardens outside are beautiful and labeled with names. They always want to go back again. This is a trip your...

If you only have a little time in Manhattan and are looking for something fun to do - GO HERE!!

I visited with my husband and our moms for a low-key Friday afternoon activity. The staff member was incredibly knowledgable and obviously loved her job! It's a small "zoo" but there are tons of insects of all kinds there. They charge $3 to cover food and care for the critters and it's well worth it.

Our favorite was the bee hive with glass panes so you can watch...

We went the day before New Years Eve and we got there at the right time because nobody but 2 other people were there. It was really neat to see all the different insects and spiders. They had a really cute kitchen set up that were actually insect cats it shows were you can find the different types of bugs in your kitchen. The kids really loved it! There are some neat interactive displays as well. It's not the biggest place but worth the $3 per person, kids 3 and under are free.

This is such a cool place! It's not a large building, but they've fit some very interesting specimens throughout. There's a neat interactive household pest exhibit, a table for kids to learn the lifestyles of several types of insects, and a microscope that projects on a larger screen. The leafcutter ant and honeybee setups are super cool. The woman at the counter was also very friendly. For $2.99 per person, you can't beat the price.
