Since I have started Jiu Jitsu lessons, I have been threatened with harm on three occasions. Each occasion the incident went to the ground, and I was able to gain a position of advantage and subdue my adversary. The fight was over fast with no injury to me or the other person. When I was younger, I did pride myself on being able to defend myself. I was not a bully, but I did not back down from a fight either. The fights were not boxing matches, with one punch, and it’s over. The fights may start standing, but every fight I was in, involved both of us on the ground. The fight did not last long, somebody always showed up to stop it. If you were on top, you did all the punching. Consequently, if you were on the bottom, you were receiving all the punches, and waiting (praying) for somebody to stop it. Since I have been taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Champion I have learned to address positions from top and bottom, as well as some others. The techniques taught; minimizes my injuries. You do not have to be stronger or bigger than your opponent or adversary. The techniques work if you are male or female, small or big. The classes at Champion offer a controlled environment, with many instructors, and people willing to assist you. You will have multiple repetitions; to put you uncomfortable positions, to teach you how to react, so you will know what to do, to protect yourself, when you are on the ground and somebody is on top, behind or to your side. You will also learn how to move from those positions to a dominate position, were you can hold your position until help arrives, or continue to fight...
Read moreI am 34 years old and woke up a few weeks ago thought, 'I would like to learn martial arts'. I had driven by Professor Young's for some time and had heard good things about the school. So, I just pulled in one day, spoke to Young and his wife. They gave me the low down, I signed up and started attending classes. I still know absolutely nothing, but everyone there is very accommodating to my lack of knowledge. Every class I leave with a bit more understanding. There is wide selection of classes, so there is limited excuse for non-attendance. My two daughters wanted to attend, so we signed them up as well. Their children classes are great, it is a great place for kids.
It is a great environment and Prof. Young has surrounded himself with good people. Everyone seems to be on the same page about making a positive school and an even better product (that being your knowledge of JJ). At the end of the day, this is a top notch school. They might need to start looking for a...
Read moreIt took me a long time to decide which martial art I wanted my daughter to learn and which school she would attend. We chose Jiujitsu because I wanted her to be able to protect herself in a “real world” situation. We started under Champion Jiujitsu and it has only gotten better with their new partnership with Gracie Barra. The classes are both challenging and fun for the kids. I am proud that my daughter is able to manage her own and even hold down boys who are taking Tae-kwan-do or Karate. I can see the confidence that it gives her. I especially like how every family participating, is so encouraging and supportive of each other’s kids. Professor Young and his team are truly exceptional in working with you and your kids. It is evident in their growth and commitment in developing your child and pushing them to be better. I would recommend Garcie Barra to anyone who wants to learn self-defense in a challenging, yet supportive...
