Best burger around… yes, it is a seafood focused restaurant. Still, burger is cooked to perfection with a toasty bun and all the fixins. I like to add bacon, cheese, avocado and some grilled jalapeños….amazing. Fries are well seasoned and have a great crispy exterior. Just get it!
Gumbo is as good as any I have had in Cajun country. This place knows how to make a good roux, taken to the edge of smoke with that old penny coloration. A beautiful thing.
Some of my favorite things: Makers Old Fashion - several great bartenders here all days of the week.
The house salad - yes, sounds simple, but this is a unique treat. From the fresh greens to the candied pecans, blue cheese crumbles and white balsamic dressing.
Oyster Nachos- the pico and the chipotle tarter make a unique blend and a great match.
Peel n Eat shrimp - so fresh and clean
Garlic Caper Salmon - you can just order a sample of the sauce and sip on it, wow…and yes I did
Chargrilled Oysters - caution hot shell, cheesy and flavorful
Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich- so good, and so spicy. I’m sweating at the thought.
All of their Soups, Bisques and Chowders
Anything blackened , mixed veggies added tops it off. Get a blackened pick two.
Finally, Shrimp and Grits - heavenly gifts of brown sugar bacon, Andouille sausage and perfectly cooked grits.
Well stocked bar and great local beer selection.
You will feel right at home.
1/9 update: tried the Southwest Brunch Burger, photo attached. Bacon, mayo, lettuce, fried egg and a fried green tomato to round it off. Accompanied by the always perfect seasoned French fries. First their regular burger can’t be topped and this is not trying to dethrone that masterpiece. Everything is done right for this one, but would like more of a southwest seasoning kick. Very enjoyable.
1/18 update Again with the Old Fashions…my usual, but they make them perfect! Had Southwest BBQ Shrimp Tacos with Jalapeño Cheddar Rice. Delicious with the tangy bbq sauce and countering mango relish. Talented and creative recipes come through again. Picture added. I still like the Chipotle BBQ Shrimp Quesadillas best, but this is great as it is.
2/10 update: try the burger with cheese and bacon then have them do the patty blackened … wow!
9/10 update: Tried blu cheese on the burger, cooked medium, for lunch, took it to the next level. Love the chargrilled oysters for an app.
10/1: Wife, daughter and I had amazing grapefruit margaritas and also shared the delicious Lobster/Shrimp grilled cheese sandwich.
2/5/23…What a beautiful day to sit outside at Fish City in Mansfield! Matt killing it, as usual, making Old Fashioneds and Grapefruit Margaritas
12/11/23 update. New Old Fashioned recipe is very good. Shawn made it perfect. Looks amazing and tastes as good, or better. Asked Ramon what his favorite desert was, while he was helping the bar staff. Banana Pudding, he says. I said I love the bread pudding. He looked at me and said, “good reminder, some in the oven I need to check on.” Pulled it out just in time and gave me a free corner cut to take home. Beautiful...
Read moreWe are transplanted Floridians who, for the longest time, have been pining for a fresh seafood restaurant in Mansfield.
When we returned from an especially good trip to Florida, we were feeling despondent because we could no longer eat like Gulf Coast natives. That was when we discovered that Fish City Grill was finally open.
The maître d' engaged us in a delightful conversation about our trip as he seated us. Then, at the recommendation of our attentive server we ordered their oyster nachos (They were tasty!)
We then studied the menu while we waited for our drinks and appetizer.
"Nah. Let's keep the momentum, let's order from the specials menu. That's were the fun is!" Just like the Gulf Coast.
We were not disappointed. Our dishes came and we enjoyed, in Mansfield, the taste of Florida.
Except that the portions were smaller than what we were used to on our trip (I expect that it's logistically difficult, and therefore expensive, to get quantities of fresh seafood into Mansfield).
We have been back several times since because their specials menu is one-of-a kind, local, and never disappointing. And the servers we've encountered were attentive and friendly.
Concerning the mixed reviews of the wait staff, let me remind all that good help is always hard to find, and, generally speaking, restaurants have a high turnover rate.
We have two children who have considerable experience as servers. We've heard the stories of antagonistic and un-empathetic patrons; of the patrons who's every word drips with disdain; of the patrons who seem to be looking for any excuse not to tip as they should.
So, if your impression of any server was negative, let me point out that you may have encountered a new hire, or experienced someone who has not yet got their footing as a server. After all, everyone has a first time and I believe that most servers want to be as good at their jobs as you are at yours.
Therefore, I would ask you as a patron to consider this before you write a negative review of the staff in any restaurant: listen to the tone in your voice, examine the motive's in your heart, check your conscience and then ask yourself, "Would I want to serve someone like me?" Remember the Golden...
Read moreThe place was bustling and parking lot overflowing. Even so, from start to finish their restaurant team made you feel welcome. Remembering 'a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link', chain/franchise restaurants generally are not my first choice only this location didn't seem anything like a franchise. There was pride in the inside and outside appearance, along with the staff and the quality of their food. Aside being out of a few chalkboard special menu items, what was ordered was excellent. We had drinks, appetizers, mains then afterwards had coffee and a shared dessert. Everything was yummy beginning with fried green tomatoes with a jalepeno dipping sauce, to the blackened grilled shrimp served with fresh french fries and a perfect balanced apple cider tossed cole slaw, the other half of 'we' ordered grilled salmon hollandaise with freshly grilled asparagus and mashed potato which was very fresh and all dishes were plated beautifully. Dessert was one of the most delicious bread puddings I have ever eaten. This 'poor man's' pudding was definitely, a pudding royal. The caramel whiskey sauce lacked distinct flavors which wasn't needed with this divine, sliceable cinnamon-pecan custard styled bread pudding. Cooked perfectly with a firm texture with the delicate, rich flavor of a dense souffle, flan or brulee. The wait staff was very attentive and polite. It was one of the few places I have been to since the pandemic that didn't seem affected by staff shortage or had a sassy staff with a 'your lucky I am here' attitude. Most of all, the quality of their food has not suffered. It was a delightful meal. Far too many places you spend $100+ then feel as if cooking at home would have been a...
