The first thing I noticed here was the variety of scenary that one comes across as well as the trail difficulty level changes a little with a few spots pretty steep. I have recently moved to the area and I am a person who likes to take a walk/cycle/run near a water body. This is it. It may not be so much for cycling but then that may be just my personal preference. There are dirt paths, paved ones mostly so, paths that suddenly go through neighbourhoods amd sometime you may feel you lost the trail since you're in the middle of homes but then surely you see the sign with the arrow. I also visited during the decline part of the pandemic so people were few but it was my first time so it may just be the time of the day 9ish am. Overall a great part of the community.

This morning I went for a walk in Wilde Lake Park for the umpteenth time and I've found each time it's always a new experience. I always learn something new or recognize something I've never seen before. I never noticed that in certain areas and by certain trees there are plaques that give a synopsis of the trees history. Another thing I never noticed was that certain benches are dedicated to a specific person/people. Anywho, during my forty minute walk I encountered plenty of smiling faces and welcoming conversations from other people walking around the park. I've never had an unpleasant experience here and the people are extremely friendly and helpful.

I took my kids for a walk around this lake in early December and we all loved it. The path has some steep parts by the dam, but not too steep for a stroller and walking toddler. We loved the architecture of some of the houses around the lake, and there are several educational signs describing facts about the different local trees that grow around the lake. There is one small part of the trail that is just a neighborhood sidewalk for a few blocks, but aside from that one spot, the parts of the loop going through residential areas continued to have a lakeside feel to them. We'll be visiting this lake a lot more in the future.

Built around the same time Columbia, Maryland was founded, Wilde Lake is a man-made reservoir with a 1.3 mile trail loop around the lake. Here's why you should visit:

  1. Nature: The scenery is beautiful and as you walk the trail, you'll see ducks and geese. Also, many of the trees have little signs by them explaining the type and significance. There's a man-made waterfall and little docks offering beautiful water views.

  2. Amenities: There are plenty of benches around the lake offering quiet places to reflect, journal and read. There's a playground by a barn used for events.

  3. Parking: It's easy to find with several lots around the lake.

If you are looking for a family-friendly...
