I've been to Sushi Sono at least 4 times and have always been impressed by the quality of the fish and the delicious flavoring. My favorite roll by far is Sono #14. It is filled with spicy tuna and topped with salmon, all seasoned with a delightful soy glaze. It has great texture with the noodles inside of the roll and is chock full of melt-in-your mouth fish. The nabeyaki udon is also a must-get -- perfect broth with scallop, clam, shrimp, chicken, kameboko, spinach, and noodles. Each ingredient is perfectly cooked and tender. It is the perfect pairing for sushi. I also really liked Sono #12 which has shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. I wasn't as big of a fan of the scallop roll and the royal crab roll. We also tried the seaweed salad, shrimp/veggie tempura, and yakitori appetizers as well as the black sesame ice cream. All were excellent. Sushi Sono is excellent and always a special treat when I'm visiting Maryland!

This place really does a good job of giving your that authentic Japanese restaurant feel, even the waitresses and sushi chefs wesr a nice uniform to match the atmosphere. The place is lovely and the setting near the water is beautiful. The service is good and the staff is attentive. They know what their doing, so 5 stars on that. The food was wonderful! All the fish was fresh and had amazingly good texture. I had the omakase sushi, and I can say they do a wonderful job of giving you a good portion of fish. It was a generous portion of fish. Thick slices on properly flavored sushi rice. The slice was much bigger than the rice, compared to other places that try to add more rice than fish. Its tough to go through all the details of flavors and taste. But if your a sushi fan, I highly recommend you try this place out, it'll be worth it!

OMG this place is amazing!

I used to live in the area and this place was THE go to restaurant in Columbia. There is nothing you could ask more for.

For starters, the staff is amazing. Upon entering you are greeted by the Maitre D and she will ensure you get a seat/table that suits your needs. If you reserve ahead, you can even get one of their two traditional low tables to sit at. The staff are all dressed in traditional Japanese attire and it adds so much to the experience!

A hot towel to wash your hands once you sit down just starts the meal of right. The staff are friendly and talkative in the best of ways. Everyone is in good spirits and happy to help you out.

This is not an all you can eat buffet style restaurant, but they sure do know how to serve up a feast! The chefs are front and centre cutting and preparing fresh foods. The hot meals are prepared in the back.

The fish here is exceptionally fresh and priced accordingly. Don't go here thinking that you are going to stuff yourself for under $50. This is a place to be dined and enjoyed.

The people who go here range from business to casual families. It is very kid friendly.

Also, they do take-away! So don't have time to sit, just call ahead or order up at the bar and they will gladly put it all in a nice package for you to bring home!

I can't say enough great things about this place. I will definitely be visiting again, even if I live a...

My husband and I are new from California and were excited to eat here. The fish was pretty good, and the service started off ok but then was totally disappointing. They accidentally gave us a plate with an extra roll on it and after we ate one of the rolls (that we ordered) they came back and literally took back the entire plate with the rest of our sushi rolls. Who does that? As a server, if you serve a plate with something by mistake, unless it's sent back by the customer you do not take the food back and take it off of the plate to save for a future customer. It made us question whether they do that for other rolls and they didn't know if we had poked at the roll with our used chopsticks so that was a total turnoff. I could hear another server around the corner ask that server if she really took our plate since she already put it on our table for at least 10 minutes. If another server is surprised that they had the audacity to take the food back to reuse, it must be pretty inappropriate and unsanitary. We will definitely not be coming back...

I am a bit of a sushi snob and it always amuses me when I see other reviewers talk about sushi places being ā€œauthenticā€ while saying in the same review that the California rolls are top notch.

While sushi sono probably is one of the better places in the area (and way better than sushi king) it doesn’t quite approach the bottom tier of sushi restaurants in Japan. It’s close, but not quite there.

Unfortunately after living outside of the country for the past decade, most of the sushi spots I used to hit up are either closed or under new management so this has been the best I’ve seen in Maryland without a time machine to take me back to Bethesda’s Matuba circa 2001. I’m still exploring so hopefully I can discover a hidden gem somewhere.

But yeah, when even the waitstaff mispronounce the names of the food they are serving, and there’s spoons in the miso, I laugh at all the people who write about this place’s authenticity.

But again I am a bit of a snob when it comes to sushi....

I’ll probably be back, because it honestly wasn’t terrible. But...
