Hello Mr. Underwood, My name is Brandon Conyers, and I had a party of 14 come to your restaurant in Columbia, MD today to celebrate my daughter's kindergarten graduation. My wife and I have been dining there for years so we just knew we were going to have a great experience. Our reservation was at 3pm, and after we all were seated we noticed that there were two servers assisting our table (Zac and Brandon) Before we arrived which was around 3:10 (mind you we called ahead as courteosy to let your staff know we were running a little late due to traffic) half of our party already placed drink orders with one of the waiters. When we sat down Brandon started taking our drink orders while at the other end of the table Zac was taking appetizer and dinner orders. We immediately told Brandon that we were separating checks. He said no problem just make sure to let Zac, who is your lead server, taking dinner orders know how to separate the checks. This left us confused because drink orders were taken without the knowledge of how the checks were being divided amongst the whole party. Finally, Zac came to our end of the table to take our dinner orders where we explained who was on each check. I have to clarify but I am positive that my mother in law explained to Zac while he was taking her order at the opposite end of the table how checks were being divided. We had a wonderful dinner service. There were absolutely no complaints about the food except for the fact that I had to remind Zac about my children's mac and cheese order which I initially requested come out as soon as possible even if it was with the appetizers. I also had to remind Zac about my 2 children lemonades. He was quick to respond in fixing these errors. We did not receive checks until 5:30. We waited longer to get checks than food which seemed odd. As Zac was handing out the checks, he mentioned to my wife and me that there may be some mistakes and if so, he will fix them if needed. Well, that was the last time we saw Zac who we thought was our lead server. Brandon came back to the table after some time where we explained that people in our party had incorrect checks and some never received a check at all. Brandon decided to put all the items back on one check and go around the table to divide everything up again by asking everyone what they ordered. Undenounced to us Brandon was attempting to correct everything with the restaurant manager, Charles. Charles never came over to our table to apologize about the wait or notify us that he was working with the server to correct the issue. I only realized that Charles was helping the server to correct the issue when Brandon came around again with incorrect checks. Since this was the second attempt, I sought out the manager who made me aware that he was privy to what was going on from the start. The manager, Charles took our check to correct it and returned to the table with the new check. I had to ask him to hold up a minute while I quickly looked it over to make sure it was correct. Again, he was not apologetic and seemed very bothered that he had to wait while I reviewed it. After payment was processed, I then noticed that I was charged twice for a salmon dinner. I went back to Charles to get a refund. He said back to me well you said it was correct in a very angry tone. I told him listen this should have been correct from the start. Your team made more errors than my one oversight after dealing with this for over an hour with two small, tired children ready to go home. I told Charles that my wife and I have been coming here for years and never had any issue with service but the service we received today has caused us to never want to return. Charles said, "Good I do not want you to return." I told him ok we won't. Charles refunded the salmon and also gratuity. My wife expressed to him how hurtful it is was for him to say he never wanted us to come back again. My wife and I wonder if race played a part with how Charles responded to the...
Read moreI was visiting family within a reasonable distance to this restaurant and since this was my first time in this city and it's in close proximity to the hotel I was staying in, I wanted to give it a try. But let's rewind this a little...my family and I are major fans of crab cake - living in Las Vegas, Nevada, we definitely have had our share of outstanding crab cakes at phenomenal steakhouses; however, there's something to be said about eating crab cakes in the state of Maryland. My wife and I conducted an online search since we weren't familiar with the area and stumbled across this restaurant. We found crab cakes on their online menu and quickly made the reservation because I wasn't in the mood to wait long and find multiple options to choose from (it was getting late and we were starving).
When we walked in, I immediately noticed the comfortable lighting and exquisite décor. The host escorted us to our table which was located in a small room that seemed to accommodate approximately () 8 tables-worth of customers. The room itself was nice; however, I wasn't a fan of the restaurant commingling a large group (10 people in that party) with tables that had 2 people per table in that same room. Larger groups have a tendency to be loud(er), so mixing them with couples that prefer a "quiet" (date) night is rather annoying and counterintuitive. I definitely cannot blame the restaurant for the loud customers, but I will suggest that they take this into consideration for others. Either keep that room for large groups only, or for couples.
My wife and I ordered the Lump Crab Cake, Lobster Bisque Bowl, Shrimp and Grits, Kona-Crusted Lamb Loin (added Caramelized-Grilled Sea Scallops), and Korean BBQ Carrots. For dessert, we opted for those Mini Indulgences and selected the Belgian Chocolate S'Mores, Oatmeal Cookie Cream Pie, and Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cannoli flavors. Everything tasted good, but for me, the star items were the Lump Crab Cake, Caramelized-Grilled Sea Scallops, Korean BBQ Carrots, and the Oatmeal Cookie Cream Pie. For the entrées, I thought the Shrimp & Grits was good, but felt there was too much going on compared to the way it's prepared down South, or even in my home city of Las Vegas. The Kona-Crusted Lamb Loin was good but I felt it lacked some sort of compliment such as chutney or Au jus of some sort.
The one thing that was without a doubt phenomenal, was the service. Our main server, Lillyann (I think goes by Lilly), was very friendly, professional, attentive, and operated at a very fast pace. These are all attributes of a restaurant employee that I enjoy seeing, and it's comfortable knowing that there are people out there in the food service industry that still work hard, just like Lilly. Of noteworthy mention, the other employees that were on shift and provided service to us in the evening hours of 9 Feb 2024, all did a remarkable job as well. The price-to-quantity/quality ratio was reasonable...you definitely won't break your bank account by coming here. The area it was located in was nice so no complaints there. I can't say I'll be back at this specific restaurant in my lifetime since I know I won't visit this city again; however, I am open to trying this franchise at other locations, if applicable. Overall, I recommend this restaurant...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of watching Ashlee serve her guest professionally and welcoming. Our Server Amani I think was absolutely awful. At the end another server heard me complimenting, Ashlee and I guess she informed management and our server we werent please at all with our service. He defensively blamed management and the hostess he was given to many table. He himself admitted whatever was no concern of.ours we just had poor service. He started to cry about his personal problems about needing the job. I explained how awkward the conversation was, and we all had problems which why my date took me out to dinner. He left rudely then came back and explained again more awkward conversations. I then explained I watched him avoid our table. He said we seem ok, meanwhile I pointed out how his attitude Changed after we decided to keep the appetizers we selected, he tried to talk us out of the crab cake which was perfectly cooked. Glad we tried it. Rushed taking our order, we watched him forget to put our drinks in. The hot crab cake came before 2 old fashions. After the food runner brought the food finally he never checked on us. We wanted a steak knife for the pork chop which was absolutely amazing, that alone deserves 4stars. Trying to get his attention which was unsuccessful we made it work with a butter knife. We add on a grilled lobster which was barely 4oz not worth the price and it was cold and not really grilled as described. Our waiter sent the manager over after boring us 4x with excuses, each 30-45m worth of excuses then the manager a guy who didn’t introduce himself said oh there’s a problem with your food, I said not really it was the service. The manager then made an excuse they were short staffed and server were going home. And took the lobster tail off the check. If the server put in a better effort, we waited to be seated. He was being picky about who he catered to, he was mad we didn’t take his suggestions to not get the crab cake, we were a party of 2 and he took tables after us which was not on the host or manager. We ordered espresso martinis as a nightcap instead of dessert and they were horrible. The server rushed and pour them in the glass. We definitely would have tried more cocktails if we had an attentive server. We also had the salmon which no seasoning or butter, it was very dry. Ordered and extra Side of carrots, which were so delicious. Pork chop a must try, adjust the sides the red cabbage is interesting not good but not bad. Salmon isn’t recommended no flavor or seasoning aïoli made it edible. Carrots a must, and if you want a simple lump crab meat crab cake not too much filler and fried crispy on the outside I...
