This little cafe amidst the business area in Columbia is actually a great breakfast spot. It appears to be geared toward the lunch crowd it likely draws from the large daytime working population in the surrounding office/light business establishments. I was actually surprised it was open on the weekend because of this, but their excellent breakfasts probably draw the locals.
I read some reviews that suggested that this place was easy to find. I'd have to disagree on the count. It is located in an unlikely office building with signage around the side where their entrance is located. It was only because Maps insisted we were in the right place that we didn't give up looking. To be fair, there was also an event at the Daycare next door that caused a bit of confusion.
The interior was modern looking and tidy but had a bit of an office look rather than a café vibe. That's not a negative, it's just unusual. It was not particularly busy the day we visited which allowed for an easygoing feel. The format was walk up and order, though they do bring your food to you. The counter person was pleasant, polite and efficient and the food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. Crepes are definitely their specialty and we stayed with that. My wife and I decided to share two crepes, one sweet and one savory. The sweet one was the Crepes Suzette which had an orange overtone and was very good. The savory crepe was a Mediterranean Veggie Crepe, which was also very good. The balsamic drizzle was a particularly tasty touch. Their coffee was pretty good as well.
With food, drink, tax and tip, our bill came to $16 per person. I was happy enough with the value. I'd try this place again if the...
Read moreI have been to this little gem three times now, and I will return 4 days from now. Does that tell you how much I like it? The menu is rather limited. There is a delicious selection of fruity or sweet crepes, like mixed berry or s’mores (with graham cracker crumbs and chocolate drizzle) , or “main dish” crepes like chicken florentine or mediterranean. There is also a gluten-free option. You can also get ice cream to top off your crepes or just for dessert. I had thought that crepes might be a bit unsatisfying for a meal by itself, but these are very filling, and I have not felt the slightest urge to add the ice cream. The prices are very reasonable; most of the menu items are $9.00. Ordinarily I like to explore a menu, but the chicken florentine was so good I have ordered it twice, as has my friend. Another friend swears by the mediterranean. When I was there for breakfast, I had that day’s special, strawberry cheesecake crepe. It was so good I am urging the owner to put it on the regular menu, and she said she is considering it. Columbia Cafe is a small café in an office building off Sterrett Place at the edge of downtown Columbia and is easy to miss, but it is worth...
Read moreNothing to look at from the outside, this adorable cafe really surprises on the inside with brightly painted walls, a welcoming atmosphere, and friendly owner.
The menu includes sweet and savory crepes (with gluten free crepes available), Belgian waffles, ice cream, and coffee drinks including an affogato.
So far we've tried two types of sweet and savory crepes with one being gluten free, as well as coffee and their americano. Everything has been delicious.
Their crepe suzette is very tasty and comes with whipped cream. Their crepe suzette is basically a crepe with orange marmalade. I loved it but had to wonder about a $9 price tag for one crepe with marmalade. It seems that 2 or 3 on a plate would seem like a better value.
Their pepperoni crepe includes pepperoni, olive tapenade (tasted like the one in a jar at Costco, which is delicious), mushrooms, and cheese. It was tasty but the mushrooms were raw and a tomato sauce to dip would have made the dish better.
The coffee is very good and the Americano is delicious. I'm picky about coffee so this is high praise from me.
Overall this is becoming a favorite spot and I highly...
