Kean's — Attraction in Mason

I took my granddaughter to this unique little throwback place because I wanted her to experience a little bit of what I did and my childhood. From the time you open the door, you're nostrils are filled with amazing smells. It's such a mixture of wonderful fragrances along with popcorn and candy and took me back again to my childhood. My granddaughter absolutely loved the old fashioned candy counter. You can buy a lot of old school candies that you can't find other places. We found her grandfather's favorite along with her favorite and the best part is you can buy it by the piece or by the pound just like back in the day. The biggest surprises were little area with Vera Bradley and a fabric area. We loved the Hallmark ornament section which had even some ornaments that are already hard to come by this year. The staff was friendly and served up the popcorn with a smile. We love the little shopping bag that we brought our goodies home in. There are so many beautiful clothes, classy novelties and toys that are nice quality, that I could have shopped for everyone for Christmas. My 12-year-old granddaughter said it was one of the best days we've had and she said that Keans is now one of her favorite places to go. We will make another trip soon for sure. Kean’s is one of those charming, small-town gems that makes Mason feel like Mason. Stepping inside is like stepping into a curated wonderland — shelves brimming with clever knick-knacks, greeting cards that actually make you smile, and an impressive selection of toys for both the little ones and the young-at-heart (myself included). And then there’s the candy: an irresistible lineup of sweet nostalgia and fun treats that practically demands a bag or two on your way out.

My only quibble? The prices. While I don’t mind paying a bit more to support a local institution, sometimes the sticker shock is enough to make me put an item back and sigh wistfully.

Still, Kean’s remains a delightful destination whenever I’m in town. You just can’t beat its charm, personality, and ability to make you feel like a kid again — even if your wallet feels a little more grown-up afterward.

When I was a kid we use to go picking strawberries in Mason and ended that trip each year with stopping off at Keans to pick out treats from their old fashion candy counter, It was magical! When I became a parent we continued the tradition. It is a awesome to now treat my g-babies to Keans. I do not live, nor have I ever lived in Mason but they are my go to for gifts. It can be hard to buy for kids, they seem to have everything already. I know whatever I pick up at Keans will be unique AND loved. More than once I have called Keans and asked if they could pick out a gift. I will describe the person, give them a budget and arrive a couple of hours later and pick up my WRAPPED gift.
