For the safety of you or your loved ones I would NOT pay a penny to go on a ride with this stable! My family and I had just arrived for our ride and in less than 2 minutes of being there (we had NOT even signed a liability/waiver form yet) when one of the horses named "KU" decided to viciously lunge at me from inside the round pen and attack me! He bit down on my arm and pulled me towards him, I was able to pry myself away, only to have this insanely aggressive horse bite me again. As my family watched in horror, I screamed for help, very noncialanonty two guides walked down from the check in area and looked at my arm. One said, "Wow that looks really bad you need to go to the hospital". The older guide, a the woman that rides/owns KU said, "Oh it's not that bad, but that horse can be a big brat sometimes". ( Trying to downplay the situation and cover her butt) I ended up passing out from the pain/shock of the injury. After I came to, the guide wrapped my arm with a bandage for me. She then had the godasity to tell my husband that they were leaving in 10 minutes and If I was going, I needed to get myself together. Are you kidding me?!?! She was more concerned about leaving on time then the well fare of one of her paying customers. My husband told them, are you serious? I am taking her to the hospital, she can't ride a horse, are you out of your mind!!?!! My children were completely freaked out and the guide gave them a carrot and told them to go give it to KU to help calm him down. What???!!!! - Your horse just took a big chunk out of my arm and you want my kids to go and feed him?!?!? Umm...NO! After Xrays, an MRI, a tetanus shot, antibiotics, pain pills and 2 different trips to Urgent Care, I ended up spending the rest of our trip in bed. My husband called the Stables later that afternoon to inform them of the extent of my injuries. They had absolutely zero remorse for what had happened. We wanted to know why a horse that was that aggressive was even allowed on the property? They once again downplayed situation and then told us that if we wanted to come back they would cover the cost of one person to ride. Not a chance in hell would we ever go back there, nor recommend anyone else to! We never heard from back from the owner Ray, after several attempts of trying to talk to him about this situation. We are a family full of Horse lovers, my daughter has been riding competivly for almost 5 years. We are around horses all of the time! We have never seen a horse act out as aggressively as KU. I thank God every day that it was me and not one of my children that got attacked, as the outcome could have been absolutely devastating! I have never written a review before, but felt it was of great importance to inform other's about what happened. I would never want this to happen to...

As a first time horse rider, I chose Lahaina Stables because of the awesome recommendations from locals, reviews I've read and the location, and let me start by saying I am really, really glad I did! Upon arrival, you are greeted by a pleasant host, mine being Heather. She immediately made me feel at ease as this was my first time horseback riding and I've been told horses "sense fear" so being put at ease upon arrival was crucial for my experience. The horses are SO well cared for, all seemed very happy with human interaction and were all unique in their own ways. I was paired with a horse named Shadow who was the most perfect horse for me. It's true what they say, humans don't pick the horse, the horse picks you. Shadow and I hit it off immediately, she is even-keeled, friendly and gracious. The ride was 2 hrs (2 miles out, 2 miles in) with a break for a quick bite and feeding of the horses. The views were breathtaking, weather was PERFECT (it's Lahaina, it's pretty nice anytime) and each rider and their horse were having a blast.
I WILL DEFINITELY be back when I return to Maui, and recommend you try them and tell your friends/family to experience Maui from a different perspective. Truly a memory...
Read moreI wish that you could give this place negetive stars. I worked for this company for almost a year off the books and it was a nightmare. The horses are under fed and not taken care of very well as far as basic grooming and medical care. The owner sprays round up weed killer in the pastures where the horses graze which is toxic for them to ingest. The horses are over worked and underfed. I reported them to the humane society when i quit (because the owner would not listen to any suggestions about improving their feed or work loads) and nothing was done. Just drove by last week and the horses all look starving. You can see their ribs and hips sticking out it made me cry. I called the owner after I drove by and he told me that I was crazy and to go F myself. Idk who he paid off but this place should not be running. It is too hot in laniapoko for underfed horses to be doing 3 rides a day in the heat. They would even use horses that had saddle sores and wounds when i worked there. They never had a day off or time to heal. If you care about animals DO...
