The employees hate dealing with their fish apparently. Took my toddler to get a couple goldfish because fish are her favorite thing. Should be simple, right? Not exactly. After talking to a first employee (we'll call her Theannah) who was handling hermit crabs and asking for help, she says “Sure! I’ll be right back!” I wait ten minutes. Finally, a second employee shows up (let's call her Jordan) and I ask her if she can help me with a couple fish. She agrees and I tell her I would like a couple of gold fish (two of the millions swimming around in the feeder fish tank). She proceeds to talk me out of the feeder goldfish out of concern for their lifespan (because I ask about bowl care and whether the standard bowl I have chosen was appropriate). She directs me to the beta fish and I asked if she would be at the fish area still in a couple minutes as I probably just want some goldfish who are active. She says "Oh yeah! I'll be right here!" These betas were prepackaged and ready to purchase so I wouldn’t need an employee to help, but they were all just sitting there and not moving. I walk back after my daughter and I looked at around five of their betas who seemed the most lively, which wasn’t saying much. It had been around two minutes of beta looking and the employee was gone. Five minutes. Ten minutes. I walk up to the cashier (who was the first employee that said she would help then disappeared). I ask her for help with the fish. She calls employee two on ear piece and then tells me employee two will be meeting me at the fish wall. I walk back and wait for another five minutes. Back to employee one at register, who again radios employee two, then tells me it will be just a second. I start walking back to the fish section and she calls out an apology for the wait. I wait another five minutes and start cruising aisles, ready to put my bowl and supplies back at this point. I go back to the fish wall one more time because at this point my daughter kissed me because she was happy to be there and now I feel an obligation to not leave without fish for her. I spot employee two and walk over asking for help with two goldfish because she is just staring at a tank. She says “it will be just a second” and proceeds to start helping a gentleman and his daughter. Gentleman tells employee I was waiting first. He had seen me hanging out for awhile so I greatly appreciated the gesture. She ignores him (and me), and gives him information on the fish he was asking about before I walked up. I thank the gentleman. She then turns to me and I tell her I just would like two goldfish. She asks what kind. I tell her I don’t care. She bags two fish, but not before she makes it obvious she thinks I am being a difficult customer with eye rolls and snobby tone. We grab the fourteen cent fish and check out. I just wanted two goldfish. If I would have known it was going to be that difficult, I would have just...
Read moreI’m furious. Petsmart sold my roommate and I two “male” mice. We bought two because mice seem like they want to have friends and we didn’t want ours to be lonely. One of them gave birth twenty days after we bought them. Petsmart not only wouldn’t take the mice back (which I can understand to some degree), but they gave us no instructions on what to do other than take the mice to a reptile store. They were wholly unsympathetic and wanted nothing more than for us to leave the store. I get that they couldn’t take the mice (though it irks me that they said they don’t have the facilities to care for them- as if we as college kids do) but for them to have no procedure in place and not even pretend to try to help us was obnoxious. They honestly seemed like they didn’t even believe there were babies at all, which were in their little corner and not very visible (but like, why we would lie about something so easy to disprove? We had the cage and everything).
TL;DR: don’t buy rodents from this Petsmart. You’ll be getting more than you bargained for. If I could rate this 0 stars I would.
Also, shoutout to Petco, who at least gave us some good advice when we called even though they weren’t even the ones who sold us a female. They seem willing to help and I’d give them my...
Read moreI've had great luck here! Switched my pit lab mix from Merrick to PetSmart's brand and he has lost weight, loves the taste and it supports his older joints. The switch was recommended by Wendy and she has been lovely! Toys and animal accessories are a bit overpriced here, but their selection of animal foods at decent prices is great. This is a fun place to bring younger kids. Rabbits and guinea pigs that have been rescued and are adoptable are out for viewing with personality cards that describe what type of household would suit it best. GROOMING: the entire grooming section is glass, so nothing will happen to your pet that you are unable to see. There were 6 dogs being groomed when I went in and not a single one seemed overly nervous. The women there seemed to be working delicately with the animals. This place sells fish, turtles, rats, birds etc. And adopts out cats. They offer dog training classes as well and have neat volunteer positions if you want to spend some extra time loving up a few felines. Veterinary care on site (hours for it differ). I have been impressed on my last few dog food runs here....
