My wife and I were looking for a good place to take a picture of the Mississippi River, and our search led us to Martyrs Park. It is a good place to see the river, but there is more to the park than that. The name Martyrs Park is named for those who gave their lives to help the thousands of people who were stricken with Yellow Fever near the turn of the 20th century. I did not know how Memphis was so significantly affected by these epidemics in the past, so it was a learning experience for me. The park is beautiful and well maintained and we were glad that we took the time to visit.

A heckofawalk and a riddleOfARide! Since it's refresh - for me.... Dntwn Mphs River area for recreation is definitely one of the top 3 parks in the Metro Memphis area to cycle, walk, bring the babies. Head over the bridge (be mindful of the seemingly ever growing incline on the way back though 🥵) to West Memphis - down the path aside the Mississippi River /or down to Riverside - either way, nice walk or bicycle ride - it does provide!! Have fun ☺️😊☺️

Just a beautiful part of the Mississippi bluffs and downtown area. Lots of nice benches, well placed crosswalk, stunning views, parking. A solemn, peaceful area punctured by its historical past and backdropped against the growing condos and homes in downtown Memphis. Part of Big River Crossing, where you can walk the length of the old Memphis/Arkansas bridge between Tennessee and Arkansas. Glad to see Memphis Parks creating such beautiful places.

Martyrs park is another staple park for me in Memphis. It's beautiful and secluded, with less foot traffic than Tom Lee park. It has great magnolias that can be fun for climbing. I actually have a lot of nostalgia attached to this place. Back in my younger adult/ experimental years, I'd come here and climb up a tree or crawl down to the river on the secret path behind the church to smoke a spliff and watch the river crash. I was usually alone and always felt safe even though a homeless man camped by the secret path. He wasn't hurting anybody. Once the river was very wavy and it was super windy. I loved watching the big waves crash into the bridge's base. I also remember I would come here and hula hoop for hours back when I was a college kid without real world problems. I hadn't been there in a while and the weather is nice now so I made a stop Sunday. I brought my roller skates with me and had so much fun skating the sidewalk just along this small humble park. I think it's somewhat of a hidden treasure. It is for...

My niece's wedding was there. Nice turn around for the horse and carriage to come in. The park was very shady with the exception of where they set us. Not the park's fault. The grass was very overgrown though. There were a few people there outside of invited guests but I don't think it's a very busy park anyway. I think that's why my niece picked it. Not any activities to do with kids there so bring your own games or sporting equipment if you're trying to entertain children. You may can see the river when the grass is cut but...
