I honestly just want my degree and needed an online program. The Online Program takes a backseat to in-class learning though. Syllabuses are always outdated or copied from in class courses. I usually get the syllabus and then update my calendar only to find out the dates have changed. pretty annoying. It's obvious the professors are either really busy or lazy in adjusting their syllabuses for online learners. This is a public university and if you're paying for an education it should be better than that. Also, they use E-text books for half of my classes and that's a terrible idea. When you're trying to study or do homework it's annoying how you just can't flip directly to the page you want/need. They're trying to cut costs regardless of what they say. doing the homework through text book modules online are pretty annoying too.
Sometimes classes are run outside of D2L and that is annoying. for example, one semester i had to use 3 different websites for my classes and D2L. Just keep everything on D2L considering we all have plenty of online accounts already.
I only have one year of classes left so i am going to finish my program but prospective students should beware. The school needs to ensure the professors are doing their due diligence to provide accurate information to students in regards to homework. For working adults being able to plan out your month or schedule is vital and UW-stout doesn't help distance learners.
Professors are helpful and respond quickly. Easy...
Read moreThey don't offer enough classes for most people to graduate in a reasonable amount of time. Many of the teachers, you might even say most teachers, aren't very good at their jobs. I'll be entering my third year this fall, but I haven't been a full time student for the last two semesters. I couldn't. One of my friends has already left. More of my friends aren't returning in the fall. I only got into two of the five classes that I NEED to take for my major. And I'm in game design. Stout prioritizes my major. All CS majors are treated with more respect, but we're not even getting the classes we need.
I'd speculate that this might have something to do with the tuition freeze by Governor Walker a couple years back, but that really shouldn't matter. I'm not a Republican and I'm not a Democrat. I don't really care much about the politics behind it. I just believe that I'm entitled to what I've paid for. If I'm going to keep spending tens of thousands of dollars for credits and living expenses, then I expect that I'll be able to take the classes that I need, but they're not being offered. The University is robbing the students, and that's not right.
That's my opinion, and that's the prevailing opinion among everyone with whom I've spoken. Stout is garbage. Don't go here unless things change. And even if reforms are implemented, an education at Stout is still a hard sell. The employment rate after graduation, however, is actually not that bad, but that's about the only...
Read moreI thought I would post here since I never hear back from the dean of students.
Dear Dean of students,
I'd like to express my thoughts about UW Stouts transfer process. I was a transfer student with an associates degree in process engineering with 82 credits and I was promised 3 years to graduate coming to Stout in spring 2017. My advisor now tells me it will take 4 years. (Haven't failed or went off track yet) this is due to lies about getting credit for classes, changes to genenal courses and cutting classes in the manufacturing engineering department. I was told I'd received credits for my transfer classes in my major which was a lie. I ended up fighting for all of them and they still refuse to give me a couple that are named and described the same as UW Stouts with more or the same amount of credits. I have a robotics class worth 3 credits and Stouts robotics course is 2 credits and they have out dated bots. This same thing has happened for my other classes. Some classes I have 6 credits to Stouts 3 credit. It is absolutely disgusting. I'll attach screenshots.
I feel so stressed and cheated. I don't know where to turn, so I decided to contact the dean's office. I just was to say I am posting this on social media to warn potential transferring students to stand clear of UW Stout. I feel like the school just wants money and it makes me sick being a student here. I've had better advisors, professors and better machinery at my previous institution all for a...
